However, it's not uncommon to find yourself suddenly scrambling last-minute, like when you receive an unexpected gift from a coworker that you want to reciprocate. If you find yourself in a similar situation, hopefully this post will give you some ideas. Bonus: everything is under $50!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjU4KlonEXvJZeN28VmGUZ8pH307O1IpzmQmR5eyYLxnvFheCHOqBNbubJp9ALltsDQGdNLwIAzl2PImv8N5ehbazegh3j6Pr1muTqqkcWHB_LC6DJlNHFRf1lsJPOfQp1cZHyIKWWBoI/s1600/lastminutegiftideas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="392" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjU4KlonEXvJZeN28VmGUZ8pH307O1IpzmQmR5eyYLxnvFheCHOqBNbubJp9ALltsDQGdNLwIAzl2PImv8N5ehbazegh3j6Pr1muTqqkcWHB_LC6DJlNHFRf1lsJPOfQp1cZHyIKWWBoI/s1600/lastminutegiftideas.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
For the person on your list who likes a good pamper sesh, the <b>I LOVE Signature Selection Box</b> <b>($24.99 CAD)</b> features six miniature bottles (100 mL) of I LOVE... Cosmetics signature body washes. The set includes: Violet Dreams, Elderflower Fizz, Exotic Fruits, Glazed Raspberry, English Rose, and Vanilla Milk. You can find this brand exclusively at <a href="https://beauty.shoppersdrugmart.ca/Luxury/I-Love/c/I%2CLOVE">Shoppers Drug Mart</a>.<br />
<br />
If you're looking for stocking stuffers or a little add-on to another present, get some face masks! I like these <a href="https://www.farleyco.ca/Products/7th_Heaven_Renew-You_Gold_Firming_Sheet_Mask_single-0838000446101.html"><b>Renew You from 7th Heaven masks</b></a> <b>($2.99 to $4.99 CAD)</b>, which<b> </b>offer affordable luxury in the form of 24-karat gold-infused sheet masks and under eye patches.<br />
<br />
Another fun idea are Christmas crackers... but not just any old Christmas cracker. The <a href="http://bit.ly/2MAirL1"><b>L'Occitane Holiday Kit To Share</b></a> <b>($34 CAD)</b> features cute little "crackers" (they don't actually pull apart) that you can split up and hand out to four different people. Inside each one is a mini shower gel and hand cream. I bought these for my coworkers and they loved them!<br />
<br />
You can't ever go wrong with a candle, in my opinion. My personal holiday favourite is the <b><a href="http://bit.ly/34PDfUK">Voluspa Crushed Candy Cane Candle</a> <u>(</u>$18 CAD<u>)</u></b>. It comes in a few different sizes but the candy-striped "macaron" is the cutest!<br />
<br />
Last but not least, for the person who's hard to shop for, a fancy water bottle is a great pick! After all, everyone needs to stay hydrated. The <a href="http://bit.ly/34O7ueI"><b>S'well Traveler Bottle</b></a> <b>($45 CAD) </b>features a wide mouth design which is perfect for a coffee but it can also fit ice cubes to keep your beverage extra cold.<br />
<br />
Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and see you in 2020!alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-1390479468642423412019-10-10T21:41:00.000-07:002019-10-10T21:41:40.929-07:00Fitting Room Try-Ons: Nordstrom Halogen x Atlantic PacificThe exclusive <a href="http://bit.ly/33irBSb"><b>Halogen x Atlantic Pacific Collection</b></a> dropped at Nordstrom this morning and while I don't typically go crazy over blogger collabs, there's no denying that Blair Eadie is one of the OG fashion bloggers with some seriously enviable style. I originally only went to Nordstrom to see if they had the polka dot tulle blouse but unfortunately, the Vancouver store didn't have it (they only got a small portion of the collection in). However, since I was there anyway I decided to take some fitting room pictures for my friend and figured I might as well share them here on my blog too.<br />
<br />
The one and only piece I ended up purchasing was the <b><a href="http://bit.ly/35pG7cE">Heart Jacquard Topper</a></b>. I'll probably wear it as a light coat but I like that it could be worn as a dress too. It's very feminine with the flared skirt and the heart print is so cute!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7VXnxzQn_tm6tb9OitfGU88ymtjzGWzVPNIFCpwhORBjuZGpWOx_tGa5V5pX0a1HzdcHOu4vyzk2ik_VJIFf0eEySKAWi70WO4XgTC6Nwyp7PW5hgUvqg0rOfGoouKz0r0skzNxbossA/s1600/Halogen+x+Atlantic+Pacific+Heart+Jacquard+Topper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="682" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7VXnxzQn_tm6tb9OitfGU88ymtjzGWzVPNIFCpwhORBjuZGpWOx_tGa5V5pX0a1HzdcHOu4vyzk2ik_VJIFf0eEySKAWi70WO4XgTC6Nwyp7PW5hgUvqg0rOfGoouKz0r0skzNxbossA/s1600/Halogen+x+Atlantic+Pacific+Heart+Jacquard+Topper.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I also liked the <b><a href="http://bit.ly/35mBPCM">Faux Fur Cuff Plaid Coat</a> </b>which Blair pairs with the <a href="http://bit.ly/2OEujgC">matching pants</a> in the lookbook as a super chic suit. I didn't buy it because it's not really my style but the pink faux fur cuffs are really soft and it gives off major Cher from Clueless vibes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmcLhysgV9W_ycVNqzy9CbYi8YegSgXWGzbT3ug_Dx6KD9gDsSxTH183fWJ0-fbsJNx7bkjuT5LlsAlGN-S9eSuQZ51hbyKchNVzHYlhxvntJ9HVknxQt2wvJWBXAiYg85yd92bv7AbC4/s1600/Halogen+x+Atlantic+Pacific+Faux+Fur+Cuff+Plaid+Coat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="722" data-original-width="501" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmcLhysgV9W_ycVNqzy9CbYi8YegSgXWGzbT3ug_Dx6KD9gDsSxTH183fWJ0-fbsJNx7bkjuT5LlsAlGN-S9eSuQZ51hbyKchNVzHYlhxvntJ9HVknxQt2wvJWBXAiYg85yd92bv7AbC4/s1600/Halogen+x+Atlantic+Pacific+Faux+Fur+Cuff+Plaid+Coat.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I was drawn to the <b><a href="http://bit.ly/2owdn1e">It's In The Cards Sweater</a> </b>as well but once I tried it on I knew it was something I'd never wear. While the print is really fun, I just don't like to wear this much colour on an everyday basis. The sweater is really soft though and I can see it working for a lot of other people.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIW5K-LH51zcX1x-dKT_-F1pRJuzuIOQUSASXLi8cZK-OCrde1J45gBL7Oq0Symc7URxzjAA_GnIkgHkCLdzJIK0NqU0xBcxn8rgzbCtzrICyz9Bxa24acnLzolIVZprf8el9MG44Wiec/s1600/Halogen+x+Atlantic+Pacific+Club+Sweater.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="590" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIW5K-LH51zcX1x-dKT_-F1pRJuzuIOQUSASXLi8cZK-OCrde1J45gBL7Oq0Symc7URxzjAA_GnIkgHkCLdzJIK0NqU0xBcxn8rgzbCtzrICyz9Bxa24acnLzolIVZprf8el9MG44Wiec/s1600/Halogen+x+Atlantic+Pacific+Club+Sweater.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Last but not least, I decided to channel my inner Blair Eadie with this combo of <a href="http://bit.ly/2IGGSEk"><b>Bow Collar Blouse</b></a> and <b><a href="http://bit.ly/2IAO3ht">Full Organza Midi Skirt</a> </b>in Navy Plaid. This outfit looks amazing on Blair in the collection lookbook but I am apparently wayyyy too short for it and look absolutely ridiculous. I knew the skirt length would probably never work for me but I did want to like the blouse on its own because I love bows. Sadly, the shoulders were just too poufy for me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7kwgXD4CVsWjJS65V2u-6iD9_8RpH0KdHJ3oGCaNp5emjIV5MqwUNwwEzo5R2rVOHorV5OD-Cl82JtQH6pvejNgtgJDywNTsr-IfoZoCzR7aEdHE_9PA9eqoBjk3VMKAyYcEfNjEHYdo/s1600/Halogen+x+Atlantic+Pacific+Navy+Plaid+Bow+Collar+Blouse+and+Organza+Skirt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="743" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7kwgXD4CVsWjJS65V2u-6iD9_8RpH0KdHJ3oGCaNp5emjIV5MqwUNwwEzo5R2rVOHorV5OD-Cl82JtQH6pvejNgtgJDywNTsr-IfoZoCzR7aEdHE_9PA9eqoBjk3VMKAyYcEfNjEHYdo/s1600/Halogen+x+Atlantic+Pacific+Navy+Plaid+Bow+Collar+Blouse+and+Organza+Skirt.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Overall, the collection was very true to Blair's style and I thought the pieces looked and felt really nice in person. It's no surprise it's selling out fast so I'm glad I was able to get a little piece of it. Not really sure where I'm going to wear my new heart print topper but I'm sure I'll find something!alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-54980229933229441932019-09-18T06:00:00.000-07:002019-09-18T06:00:11.724-07:00Zoya Fall 2019: Sensual Collection AWhen I started my blog almost 10 years ago (OMG, where does the time go?!), it was mostly a way for me to share my obsession with nail polish. Pretty much all of my first posts were nail polish swatches and reviews! In the spirit of nostalgia, therefore, I'm throwing it back to my early days of blogging and sharing some of the polishes from the <a href="https://www.nailpolishcanada.com/categories/zoya/collections/sensual-collection-fall-2019.html"><b>Zoya Fall 2019 Sensual Collection</b></a>.<br />
<br />
Back in the day, Zoya was really difficult to get ahold of here in Canada but now thanks to retailers like <a href="http://www.nailpolishcanada.com/"><b>Nail Polish Canada</b></a>, which sent over these polishes for me to play with, it's much easier for us Canadians to try out different brands. The Sensual Collection features 12 colours in total. <b>Collection A</b>, which I'm featuring today, is composed of neutrals and reds and <b>Collection B</b> is composed of purples and darker shades.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAyWGJj3jTJfKCBtDwhiTkGraJW1Y_g4b2f0gYY-4xwYkTzaOnbDxWmfhIuCnBq3fXX6n3-HrlnegGZaXK2jnB1cZ-VFtzgYhbmGBDz4CZXbWQwN5KKw4I1XwuUac7Oyj4yTL7jItEN_4/s1600/Zoya+Sensual+Collection+Fall+2019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="486" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAyWGJj3jTJfKCBtDwhiTkGraJW1Y_g4b2f0gYY-4xwYkTzaOnbDxWmfhIuCnBq3fXX6n3-HrlnegGZaXK2jnB1cZ-VFtzgYhbmGBDz4CZXbWQwN5KKw4I1XwuUac7Oyj4yTL7jItEN_4/s1600/Zoya+Sensual+Collection+Fall+2019.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
For those of you who have never tried Zoya before, the brand is known for its formula -- it's big 10 free but doesn't sacrifice quality. Not only is the staying power great, but all of the polishes were well pigmented and streak-free. Each swatch you see in this post is two coats.<br />
<br />
<b>Joss </b>is a neutral pink crème. It's quite light but would be great to wear in a professional setting. I really liked it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk-sjtA6Eg_qq0E-A8UH_aGADG_2RoPQTeisRQrfuQIdVS_ckMAtyawMgEVrGR4_4flBp8p4_SdNP0bfdodf3bSveAgdeE4KKGskJaINcFKakMSrvenkeDnbTiYbpikcPjgIOHthBWXyA/s1600/Zoya+-+Joss.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="366" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk-sjtA6Eg_qq0E-A8UH_aGADG_2RoPQTeisRQrfuQIdVS_ckMAtyawMgEVrGR4_4flBp8p4_SdNP0bfdodf3bSveAgdeE4KKGskJaINcFKakMSrvenkeDnbTiYbpikcPjgIOHthBWXyA/s1600/Zoya+-+Joss.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Kinsley</b> is neutral brown crème. This is probably my least favourite of the shades from Collection A because I don't think it flatters my skin tone at all (kind of blends in like mannequin hands).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSev_W3flgsdRsuX6TJyrvnaYC0IQaTpJrTvtpDcwYBjZmNIEOi5s16pdDbaad_HFpJt416ph60PDKZ2gMt7ZFUF6uJwvkOq4TA4eb6RvNL-meN4age2D7Gqb3UbNk5E2ZBMO1VnTNK7w/s1600/Zoya+-+Kinsley.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="359" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSev_W3flgsdRsuX6TJyrvnaYC0IQaTpJrTvtpDcwYBjZmNIEOi5s16pdDbaad_HFpJt416ph60PDKZ2gMt7ZFUF6uJwvkOq4TA4eb6RvNL-meN4age2D7Gqb3UbNk5E2ZBMO1VnTNK7w/s1600/Zoya+-+Kinsley.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Foster </b>is a neutral chocolate brown crème. This type of shade is not for everyone but I actually like a good brown nail polish in the Fall. This one looks super creamy and rich.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR9oyotwa7Km76rV2-VUbDHx1o49ikX3eyyA2OrY01CFpgx59QqNkKKNv7k16D8_g8No31jrPW1zfrxs6pgQWf9t8XxMpTRKcwhHtNhKYbODne4yMRbHOVUmXKUZegRGgS8_yQa4gKEAM/s1600/Zoya-+Foster.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="344" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR9oyotwa7Km76rV2-VUbDHx1o49ikX3eyyA2OrY01CFpgx59QqNkKKNv7k16D8_g8No31jrPW1zfrxs6pgQWf9t8XxMpTRKcwhHtNhKYbODne4yMRbHOVUmXKUZegRGgS8_yQa4gKEAM/s1600/Zoya-+Foster.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Briar</b> is described as warm red crème but I actually find it leans on the dusty rose side. It's my favourite from this collection.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDZ3DXcT0auneRptm49y1yTwn1QwmDsieJsQVvdq2sWH0BfjssbpixA_PD6vFBRr4BP1kcHJWKW1svEKFoSpCiBx9bA65dqe751c2Ib4iA2mnqCWNvjMJIb8Cn7BcP1OESTt_mKPBnE5k/s1600/Zoya+-+Briar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="362" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDZ3DXcT0auneRptm49y1yTwn1QwmDsieJsQVvdq2sWH0BfjssbpixA_PD6vFBRr4BP1kcHJWKW1svEKFoSpCiBx9bA65dqe751c2Ib4iA2mnqCWNvjMJIb8Cn7BcP1OESTt_mKPBnE5k/s1600/Zoya+-+Briar.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Margaret </b>is a bright red crème. I found this a bit difficult to photograph because in the bottle it seems to have more pink in it. A red like this is a classic for Fall!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2j0l6Sli59GFfDkSkMSZbAdxd0cxnFdjNZs4CJqc1145XuWs8qA7srBkjuYnO_fAJAyF4p3WnvxZ5HVVtS9uc0PUx-B75b7_e2TNtJqP1AFeMYVzC9ZTivy1VQvYLs4mlH5G4mMHr0jo/s1600/Zoya+-+Margaret.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="349" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2j0l6Sli59GFfDkSkMSZbAdxd0cxnFdjNZs4CJqc1145XuWs8qA7srBkjuYnO_fAJAyF4p3WnvxZ5HVVtS9uc0PUx-B75b7_e2TNtJqP1AFeMYVzC9ZTivy1VQvYLs4mlH5G4mMHr0jo/s1600/Zoya+-+Margaret.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Rashida </b>is a red shimmer. This is the type of shade I often associate with Christmas and it's the only one in Collection A that isn't a crème finish. Even though it's a bit early to think about, it would be nice for a holiday party!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWcYlSarKd1NXHJIArzXIoanAkZlUDK3hDE9V2Bc_g6qgIOjTlvtCt8350PDkX0DugdJT_rvBqk_QW0tpZ6AfT6TwxF7UhHbM1Qr3gx4-tqfIpnuxlUwMHNd4FGzj4oFx8DBJ1e2uAljw/s1600/Zoya+-+Rashida.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="358" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWcYlSarKd1NXHJIArzXIoanAkZlUDK3hDE9V2Bc_g6qgIOjTlvtCt8350PDkX0DugdJT_rvBqk_QW0tpZ6AfT6TwxF7UhHbM1Qr3gx4-tqfIpnuxlUwMHNd4FGzj4oFx8DBJ1e2uAljw/s1600/Zoya+-+Rashida.jpg" /></a></div>

And now, thanks to the pros at <b>MAKE UP FOR EVER</b>, it's easier than ever to find your perfect nude with the new<b> Artist Nude Creme</b> liquid lipsticks. The line of shades was designed specially to match a wide range of skin tones. After all, what looks like a nude lip on me probably won't look the same on you!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I was very impressed with the range which <span style="text-align: start;">really is quite inclusive... not just a bunch of lipsticks designed for pale skin. However, you don't need to stick to a classic nude that matches your skin tone if you don't want to -- the shades are all really nice and wearable.</span></div>

<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">MUFE sent me a couple to try out and I picked <b>01 (Uncovered)</b>, the lightest shade, and <b>09 (Pure)</b>, which is really targeted towards a darker skin tone. For reference in the swatches below, I am a little tan right now since it's summer and probably around a MAC NC25.</span></div>

<br />
I found the darker shade, 09 Pure, transferred rather easily and got on my teeth which was not a problem with the lighter shade, 01 Uncovered. I do think this can easily be fixed next time I wear it by using a lipliner and a two step blotting application process. Personally, however, I will probably get the most use out of 01 Uncovered since I tend to gravitate towards light peachy shades.
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Conclusion: the Artist Nude Creme lipsticks are sooooo nice. They are extremely pigmented and opaque with a creamy, satin finish. Although they aren't glossy, there is a bit of a shine and they feel hydrating on the lips. At <b>$25 CAN</b>, I'd say these are in line with the type of quality you can expect from MUFE as well. <i>Find the whole lineup at <a href="http://bit.ly/2ZNaxCa"><b>Sephora</b></a>.</i></div>

Like many other girls my age, they were over-plucked in the mid/late-2000s (thankfully they grew back) and in recent years I finally figured out how to fill them in but it's still been annoying, especially when they wiped off if I got wet or sweaty. Nothing worse than having half an eyebrow!<br />
<br />
I started hearing about microblading a while back and was incredibly intrigued by the process. It seemed like just the thing I was looking for: tiny hair strokes are "tattooed" on (it doesn't go as deep as a traditional tattoo), leaving you with natural-looking brows for 1-3 years. I talked about it so often that my husband offered to pay for me to get microblading for my birthday 3 years ago (he literally wrote "eyebrows" on a piece of paper and handed it to me as my present)... but since I'm scared of needles and pain, it actually took me until now to finally cash in on my birthday gift.<br />
<br />
Once I finally mustered up the courage, I booked in with <a href="http://www.instagram.com/savannadillon"><b>Savanna Dillon</b></a> at <a href="http://studiosashiko.com/"><b>Studio Sashiko</b></a>. It's a bit of a drive from Vancouver to Langley where they're located but Studio Sashiko is pretty famous in the microblading world and I was willing to travel for the best. This is a semi-permanent face tattoo, after all!<br />
<br />
I started the process at the very end of December and now that it's complete, I can honestly say it was worth it. I love not having to do my brows anymore and I feel more "done" even when I'm not wearing any makeup. Savanna did an amazing job creating individual hair strokes where none existed before and I've had so many compliments on how natural they look (no one has known they were microbladed until I told them).<br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;">5.5 months after first session and 10 weeks after touch-up (no brow products used)</span></div>
<br />
Since I spent so much time considering whether or not I wanted to try microblading and it's also an expensive process (some places offer cheap deals but in my opinion, it's worth it to pay more for quality so you know you'll be satisfied at the end), I made sure to document my path to perfect brows for the blog. It's funny looking back at pictures of my original brows because I kind of forgot what they looked like!<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>PROCESS AND HEALING</b><br />
<br />
As I mentioned earlier, Studio Sashiko is located about an hour drive from Vancouver in Langley but it's a really open and welcoming space. Savanna made me feel comfortable right away with her warm personality and took the time to explain what she'd be doing. I'd also already stalked her Instagram account so I was familiar with her work and knew I liked it (highly recommend checking out your artist's social media beforehand). <br />
<br />
Although it's a 2 hour appointment, the actual time spent microblading is not that long. In fact, most of my appointment was spent drawing and deciding on the eyebrow design and waiting for numbing cream to work. Thanks to the aforementioned numbing cream, I couldn't really feel the needles but there were a few sensitive points where there was some sharp pain. Overall, it was totally bearable. Savanna did a couple passes (numbing cream + microblading) before we were done.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Top: natural brows / Bottom: immediately after first session</span></div>
<br />
The first day was probably the most painful... once the numbing cream wore off, my eyebrows felt really sore. You have to dab the tattooed area gently 5-7 times a day for about a week with lukewarm water and a disposable paper towel. This removes any plasma and oil build-up and prevents scabbing. There was a bit of blood when I dabbed on Day 1 but it went away by Day 2.<br />
<br />
I was sent home with some detailed care instructions and a little pot of barrier cream that I was to apply with a cotton swab for 2 full weeks. The card also had this really cute meme on the back that described the general healing process.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ_1LP6ymrviaU7GDl3iSZs4qAjohuD0N2bySJOS85Eko2L2pJ-vUUMIBSs1XOqsvYkpmfiT69WrXFrSsikK9X6ilo4Eqr31U6vQJyFbYuyvBwaRc6x965Z5M5PyWcJSsUe-lTBN5iXng/s1600/studiosashikocat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="625" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ_1LP6ymrviaU7GDl3iSZs4qAjohuD0N2bySJOS85Eko2L2pJ-vUUMIBSs1XOqsvYkpmfiT69WrXFrSsikK9X6ilo4Eqr31U6vQJyFbYuyvBwaRc6x965Z5M5PyWcJSsUe-lTBN5iXng/s1600/studiosashikocat.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Overall, I'd say the timeline was pretty accurate to my experience. The soreness was gone by Day 2. I didn't find my brows looked particularly dark & thick as they healed, as per the card, but I suspect this is because I have dark hair (they probably would look very dark if you're a blonde). My brows started to feel a bit itchy around Day 4 and flaking didn't start until Day 8.<br />
<br />
Here's what the flaking looked like on Day 10:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYk_RiwHmiZtrSlx0f-JQJ0gGWfNiOSlPoj47xgAWKTruwYcxCywrJn9UKxP1XnA19ux4puD3V9KTiiwsDPxDGDqAZ78RzKuH4J473HxVXWVyWPVVGNEQUPk4v-864dIhNNnYOMN6LPWo/s1600/microblading+day+10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="584" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYk_RiwHmiZtrSlx0f-JQJ0gGWfNiOSlPoj47xgAWKTruwYcxCywrJn9UKxP1XnA19ux4puD3V9KTiiwsDPxDGDqAZ78RzKuH4J473HxVXWVyWPVVGNEQUPk4v-864dIhNNnYOMN6LPWo/s1600/microblading+day+10.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Day 10 Post-Procedure</span></div>
<br />
On Day 12, I started to feel concerned because my left eyebrow pigment looked completely gone. However, the full healing process takes approximately 6-8 weeks. Because the skin is constantly regenerating and naturally exfoliating, the colour does actually "bloom" later on and take on a new strength.<br />
<br />
<strong>TOUCH-UP</strong><br />
<br />
A touch-up is highly recommended about 8-12 weeks after your first session. I know it might be annoying to have to go back and potentially pay more (the touch-up session at Studio Sashiko costs $150), but it's really important. It gives the artist a chance to assess how your brows have healed and fill in spots that didn't "take".<br />
<br />
The process touch-up session was very similar to my first session and took about the same length of time. I noticed the after result was a lot darker than it had been after my first session since the new strokes built on the previous strokes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Top: healed, 10.5 weeks after first session / Bottom: immediately after touch-up</span></div>
<br />
In terms of healing, I also found it to be a lot easier this time around. The flaking was significantly less noticeable, likely because of the base colour already being there.<br />
<br />
5.5 months later, I am still SO happy with my new brows. You can see the healed result didn't stay as dark as immediately after the touch-up since I know some people are concerned about having really noticeable brows. I'm not sure how long it will be until I have to get them redone but I care for them by avoiding using any abrasive/exfoliating products on the area (e.g. retinol) and applying sunscreen to protect them from fading/prolonged sun exposure.alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-63051465957437528672019-04-07T15:27:00.000-07:002019-04-07T15:27:08.169-07:00FOTD: Everyday Makeup from RevlonThe kind folks at <b>Revlon</b> sent over some new products for me to play with a while back and the combination really makes for the perfect fuss-free everyday makeup. Not only that but a lot are from the ColorStay collection which is super long-wearing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH1MTkTigi6lKv83eIX5N3R8GxbxmpvhvTwcjjaXn7y_uO4m8vXNM5sJLzNiZ9SmwGWk0LYnp54rFfuqr_20BWnlkqWoDCKhryaWa8t_TxZRdr7-mMiuPIe-FI9ox7PsFIeXKC2RlB8KA/s1600/revlon-everyday.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="376" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH1MTkTigi6lKv83eIX5N3R8GxbxmpvhvTwcjjaXn7y_uO4m8vXNM5sJLzNiZ9SmwGWk0LYnp54rFfuqr_20BWnlkqWoDCKhryaWa8t_TxZRdr7-mMiuPIe-FI9ox7PsFIeXKC2RlB8KA/s1600/revlon-everyday.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
There's nothing easier than a creme eye shadow if you want to put something on fast and the <b>ColorStay Crème Eye Shadow in Creme Brulee</b> is the type of shade you can wear with pretty much everything. It's a shimmering champagne that on my slightly tan skin tone gives just the slightest hint of colour. Since it's budge-proof, it could also double as a base for powder shadows if you feel so inclined. The packaging comes with a little brush in the lid although I personally prefer to apply creme eye shadows with my fingers. I finished my eyes with the <b>ColorStay Eyeliner in Black</b> (not my fave -- I find the texture really hard and the colour doesn't go on smooth at all) and <b>Volumazing Mascara in Blackened Brown </b>(this is an average mascara but I didn't think it was particularly volumizing on my straight, sparse lashes).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
On my face, I'm wearing the <b>ColorStay Makeup for Combination/Oily Skin in Medium Beige</b>. Love that there's a formulation for my skin type! The foundation isn't cakey although it doesn't stay perfectly matte on me, especially on the t-zone (always my problem area). Likely due to the SPF 15, there's also unfortunately a bit of flashback. I took my FOTD photo with my ring light and I swear it makes the foundation look a lot lighter than it does in person, so that's something to consider if you're wearing this one out at night. To create a bit of dimension, I used the <b>Galaxy Dream Holographic Highlighting Palette</b> which <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2019/02/covergirl-trublend-superstunner-its-lits-revlon-galaxy-dream-highlighter-swatches.html">I have previously reviewed</a>.</div>

<br />
<span style="text-align: justify;">My favourite product of the bunch is what I'm wearing on my lips: the </span><b style="text-align: justify;">Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tint in Pink IRL</b><span style="text-align: justify;">. It's soooo nice! I originally thought it was going to be like a Lancome Juicy Shaker but those are a lot more sheer and glossy. This product has a sort of creamy formulation that feels hydrating on the lips and the colour payoff is great. This particular shade is a perfect everyday lip colour. I also love the sponge tip applicator and that fact that it smells like vanilla - yum!</span>alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-13195966933045095692019-03-18T06:00:00.000-07:002019-03-18T06:00:04.899-07:00Spring 2019 Beauty FavesThe weather is finally turning (this week it's supposed to go as high as 17 °C!) and Spring is officially around the corner. My absolute superstar #1 fave that I used all Winter long is the <a href="http://bit.ly/2FcDJtj"><b>StriVectin S.T.A.R. Light™ Retinol Night Oil</b></a>. I first shared this back in October as part of <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2018/10/london-drugs-ldbeauty-fallwinter-2018-beauty-skincare-launches.html">my #LDBeauty recap</a> and have been using it ever since. In short, it is AMAZING and I don't think I'll ever be able to live without it going forward. It's the only retinol that has made a significant difference in my skin texture, especially on my forehead and chin which are areas I've been trying to deal with for quite some time now. The oil feels super luxe and absorbs quickly.<br />
<br />
To help my StriVectin retinol oil and other serums sink in, I've been using my <a href="http://bit.ly/2F9w5A3"><b>Herbivore Rose Quartz Facial Roller</b></a>. I was first introduced to the concept of facial rolling at Glow Dermal Therapy (I started getting professional facials in the lead-up to my wedding and continue going every so often for "maintenance" purposes), and I've noticed facial rolling seems to be all the rage right now. No surprise why... I just can't get enough of that cooling sensation!<br />
<br />
I always apply sunscreen under my makeup but I've always struggled with the concept of re-applying throughout the day. Do I remove my makeup and do it all over again or do I put sunscreen on top of my makeup? Both options aren't great so I was super excited when I discovered this <a href="http://bit.ly/2TLo8em"><b>Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist with SPF 50</b></a>. You can spritz it over your makeup to refresh your UV protection and it doesn't mess up anything. I take this on all my trips and it was so useful on my recent trip to Kauai.<br />
<br />
To maintain my post-Hawaii glow, I've been spritzing on <a href="http://bit.ly/2TLujiE"><b>St. Tropez Bronzing Water Face Mist</b></a>. The naturally derived DHA tans your face in a very subtle way and the tropical scent is incredibly refreshing.<br />
<br />
Keeping on that tropical note, I've also thrown out all my other deodorants and am exclusively using <a href="http://bit.ly/2F7QQvR"><b>Kopari Coconut Oil Deodorant</b></a>. It's aluminum-free, vegan, and paraben-free, and it smells soooo good. I love everything coconut so this is right up my alley.<br />
<br />
Last but not least, <a href="http://bit.ly/2TF1aFM"><b>Slip Silk Scrunchies</b></a><b> </b>(I prefer the skinny version since I don't have a ton of hair) Made from pure silk, they've been saving my hair from breakage and creasing. I often wear a high ponytail for the gym and they actually keep it up instead of slipping too, which I thought was kind of surprising since they are made of silk which is a slippery fabric.alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-70558104805870079012019-02-21T06:00:00.000-08:002019-02-21T06:00:08.495-08:00Fjallraven Kånken Mini BackpackAnyone remember <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2015/10/wishlist-cold-weather-accessorizing.html">this wishlist from 2015</a> where I mentioned wanting a <b>Fjallraven Kånken Mini Backpack</b>? Well, three years later I finally own one thanks to my bestie who got it for me for Christmas! It's so cute and perfect for casual weekends, like this one at Granville Island which I spent walking around with a coffee in hand. I also love that it's waterproof which is much-needed for our rainy Vancouver weather.<br />

We've been married for 4 months as of yesterday and it's been so wonderful looking at all our photos and reliving the day. Funny how a whole year of planning can be over in such a flash!<br />

<br />
As part of this series, I'm planning on sharing some details from our special day and things I learned along the way. First up, invitations!<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>SAVE THE DATES</b><br />
<br />
For our wedding, sending out Save the Dates was necessary as we had a lot of guests who would have to travel. This way, they were given a lot of advance notice to block off the time in their calendars if they planned on coming. We opted to send ours through e-mail via <a href="http://www.paperlesspost.com/" style="font-weight: bold;">Paperless Post</a>, which I highly recommend because it was free (tip: the default option requires you to buy coins for fancy "envelopes" but I did away with "envelopes" altogether since these weren't our actual invitations thus making the cost zero).<br />
<br />
In addition to alerting people to the date and location of our wedding, we also used the Save The Dates as a way of gathering our guests' mailing addresses. Paperless Post lets you track who's opened your card, which is helpful so you know who to follow up with. They have a lot of wedding invitation designs as well so you could do everything through them for free/cheap and in an eco-friendly way.<br />
<br />
<b>INVITATIONS</b><br />
<br />
We had initially planned on using <a href="http://www.minted.com/"><b>Minted</b></a> for our wedding invitations because that's the platform we were using for our wedding website and online RSVPs. Side note: I tried a number of different options for our wedding website before I settled on Minted; ultimately I liked that we could manage our RSVPs in one spot, keep certain details private to guests only, and I was easily able to purchase a custom domain name through them.<br />
<br />
Our invitations, however, ended up being a last-minute design change once we got our engagement photos back. We both really loved this double exposure photo and thought it would look cool and more personal than the other invitation design which matched our website.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0TUkJNf88c6zErCFapowtVNzRM5u6xdziXZ-55YYXs7HqtFCfhwUda8nSg__cbi6dCXi1xI9yd1Y35K9zZGRJrSVZkrLyNTuxuvbVWDgRNvQeHKNQ6L4LQzuUVZMv51hBMFks80nY7wU/s1600/wedding+invitations.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="749" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0TUkJNf88c6zErCFapowtVNzRM5u6xdziXZ-55YYXs7HqtFCfhwUda8nSg__cbi6dCXi1xI9yd1Y35K9zZGRJrSVZkrLyNTuxuvbVWDgRNvQeHKNQ6L4LQzuUVZMv51hBMFks80nY7wU/s1600/wedding+invitations.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Credit: <a href="http://www.sararogers-photography.com/">Sara Rogers Photography</a></span></div>
<br />
Since we were going to use our own photo, we decided to use <a href="http://www.vistaprint.ca/"><b>Vistaprint</b></a> instead. Not only is it considerably cheaper than Minted (tip: they have coupon codes all the time; I was able to get 60% off my order by tracking their deals), but we preferred this template for our "movie poster"-style invite. I'm not sharing a picture of the back here but it had some extra photos and details, including a link to our website for people to RSVP.<br />
<br />
Vistaprint can be hit-or-miss sometimes but we were very happy with our experience. To avoid disappointment, I would recommend ordering their <a href="https://www.vistaprint.ca/wedding-sample-kit.aspx?couponAutoload=1&GP=02%2f09%2f2019+15%3a05%3a35&GPS=5309078863&GNF=1">free wedding sample kit</a>. It takes a while to arrive in the mail but you can see what the different paper stocks actually feel like. We ended up choosing the Linen which was a surprise since I had always thought I'd prefer matte.<br />
<br />
The invitations also come with free envelopes but they're plain white and pretty thin. In order to elevate our wedding suite slightly, we opted to spend a little more money (but again, we got that discount!) and got custom envelopes with a grey/white marbled design.<br />
<br />
To finish everything off, I ordered a custom address stamp from Etsy (there are tons of designs to choose from) and bought some calligraphy markers from Michael's. I have pretty nice handwriting so I hand-addressed everyone's invitations myself.<br />
<br />
One last tip: when you're ordering invites, make sure you count properly! You don't need an invitation for every guest since a lot of people are couples or live in the same household. I ended up slightly over-ordering but I've found uses for the extras... mostly as bookmarks, haha. We also received this <a href="http://bit.ly/2MXomsl"><b>Kate Spade New York Take The Cake Double Invitation Frame</b></a> as a wedding gift which has been a really nice way of displaying our invitation in our home.alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-3790977974241850872019-02-08T06:00:00.000-08:002019-02-08T06:00:01.126-08:00Drugstore Highlighters You Need Right NowBrands like BECCA have made a name for themselves in the highlighter world but the truth is, you can find some real gems at more affordable prices from tried-and-true drugstore brands like Revlon and CoverGirl too. I received these two palettes from the <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2018/10/london-drugs-ldbeauty-fallwinter-2018-beauty-skincare-launches.html"><b>London Drugs #LDBeauty event</b></a> I attended a few months back and if you can't live without that glow, you need to check them out!<br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;">Revlon Galaxy Dream Holographic Highlighting Palette | CoverGirl TruBlend Super Stunner Palette</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The <a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/covergirl-trublend-super-stunner-highlight-palette/M0007691.html?dwvar_M0007691_color=It%27s%20Lit&cgid="><b>CoverGirl TruBlend Super Stunner Palette</b></a> in <b>"It's Lit"</b> <b>($12.99 CAD)</b> features three different highlighting powders that you can use alone or together for either a natural or dramatic look. This particular palette is targeted towards fair/light skin tones (there is another one called "Glowing Up" for medium/dark skin tones). My skin is more on the medium side so these shades are a little light for me but I can still make them work, especially during the Winter months when I don't have a tan.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Side note: is anyone else loving the CoverGirl rebrand? The logo and packaging are much more minimalist and I think they look great.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
If you're a fan of texture like I am, you will probably love this CoverGirl palette. The powder feels buttery soft (is there anything more satisfying?), which makes for easy blending. The finishes also vary depending on the look you're going for; the far left is more of a subtle sheen whereas the far right one is for when you want that glitter bomb look without giant flecks of glitter all over the place. In my opinion, it's a nice and simple everyday palette.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
For more experienced highlighter queens who want to go beyond your "basic" highlight, the <a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/revlon-photoready-galaxy-dream-holographic-highlighting-palette/L0011970.html"><b>Revlon Galaxy Dream Holographic Highlighting Palette</b></a> <b>($19.99 CAD) </b>is the one for you. I honestly didn't know what to expect when I first opened the packaging because on its face, the shades look pretty flat and bland in the pan. Was I ever wrong... </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Once swatched, I was totally shocked to see these highlighters come to life. Despite looking chalky, they were surprisingly blendable. Plus, they are made with duo chrome pearls for a multi-faceted, prismatic glow. Each shade looks a little different depending on which way you're facing in the light... the effect is truly incredible. The green-toned one seems like it might be hard to use on the daily, but if you're into the whole mermaid/unicorn look, these highlighters will get you there fast.<br />

However, I've never been too interested in designer sneakers... <i>until I saw these</i>. Gucci has been pumping out variations of these sneakers for some time now and while I've always liked the Stan Smith-eqsue silhouette, if I'm going to spend the $$ on casual shoes they need to have a unique element. This logo elastic band was it for me. Now if I can just figure out a way to keep these white kicks clean!<br />

After all the stress of wedding planning for the past year or so, I knew I wanted to do a relaxing beach vacation as opposed to a city/exploring vacation. We also took the opportunity (it being our honeymoon and all) to justify going to Bora Bora which has been a dream destination of mine for years. Warning: this is going to be a pretty picture-heavy post!<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Oahu, Hawaii</b></span><br />
<br />
Since we knew that our end goal was to get to French Polynesia, we decided to break up the long travel by spending a week in Oahu first. Yes, I did go to Oahu twice in 2018 (as I mentioned in <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2018/03/one-week-in-oahu.html">my Oahu vacation recap</a>). However, there was so much we didn't get to see the first time around.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg56pqxjrqa_RiEOsraUU5I3YOdbcLKs8yL6NxckJKTSELIXYn0M6Nq_01FwmqoWIopq5ouMDegw0rylTziqCyPI-ru0OMk7b_MyAUvR1Q-7_GZ4rspczkHXzr-ROeIZaQsT9CTN_F2W6Y/s1600/northshoreswing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg56pqxjrqa_RiEOsraUU5I3YOdbcLKs8yL6NxckJKTSELIXYn0M6Nq_01FwmqoWIopq5ouMDegw0rylTziqCyPI-ru0OMk7b_MyAUvR1Q-7_GZ4rspczkHXzr-ROeIZaQsT9CTN_F2W6Y/s1600/northshoreswing.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Since we didn't get to it on our prior trip, hiking up to the top of <b>Diamond Head</b> was a major priority.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7-J6iWuZbY9y4z2229yGP-mnt263xNWNjR-Eswdu6yRzg0rgxhjKCCZxB0UWX5SPpiYwMOcP-1jUeQu4Co4sZ-bbfAnXDzOUZN5fyNVYNwKtvx-psIfUgq_8nE-57X10UoyqIOa1RC3c/s1600/diamondhead2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="326" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7-J6iWuZbY9y4z2229yGP-mnt263xNWNjR-Eswdu6yRzg0rgxhjKCCZxB0UWX5SPpiYwMOcP-1jUeQu4Co4sZ-bbfAnXDzOUZN5fyNVYNwKtvx-psIfUgq_8nE-57X10UoyqIOa1RC3c/s1600/diamondhead2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfVlvNVuq6dMdXIxXkglRFK_iWrF30Jh8xnufwuKOyESn31naX5HYOnjS-El3RPPDOGa6aD_eee92jEvMDf0dgb6Ykk5iEVcR6SrkI5uy8iOzdH-VsCfRtQRdWcos4YQXM8uyQuaGDKHs/s1600/diamondhead1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="667" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfVlvNVuq6dMdXIxXkglRFK_iWrF30Jh8xnufwuKOyESn31naX5HYOnjS-El3RPPDOGa6aD_eee92jEvMDf0dgb6Ykk5iEVcR6SrkI5uy8iOzdH-VsCfRtQRdWcos4YQXM8uyQuaGDKHs/s1600/diamondhead1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
We also did the <b>Pink Pillbox Hike</b> on the island's west side. This is my favourite hike I've done on Oahu thus far because there were no crowds (we probably saw about 6 people total) and the views were amazing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbINCBM2O1kf_cTWCESQQXiZJkck6dSa8CJC7MZyqCPQpMlHCEhUAm1TiqsnJaSn7OU_dpRnRU7RFLP0rjwKb0agGURvy5Wo3KFp8jocUg1bYZLA8MJhvUtdPWlIlhMaE1Ap834u-WlvI/s1600/pinkpillbox1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="665" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbINCBM2O1kf_cTWCESQQXiZJkck6dSa8CJC7MZyqCPQpMlHCEhUAm1TiqsnJaSn7OU_dpRnRU7RFLP0rjwKb0agGURvy5Wo3KFp8jocUg1bYZLA8MJhvUtdPWlIlhMaE1Ap834u-WlvI/s1600/pinkpillbox1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
We also rented a car and drove to the North Shore! I wish we had had more time to explore all the little shops in <b>Haleiwa</b> but we spent most of they day lounging at Waimea Bay instead. I did manage to get a photo with the iconic Colette Miller wings in front of <b>Anahulu Shave Ice</b>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaMF2RRI8c-5qWee5igZbkh5tEkN2sYCgJ5KBoU20cCX-K5K4FkjPbn_Nvk0Rauf-AAonhfvrb-LhNUFeXVmbf3wMCB8FMzX2grXEjEiFMzg-n8iXUsSYzvAj61a09pEHzexCAEth490Q/s1600/northshore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="545" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaMF2RRI8c-5qWee5igZbkh5tEkN2sYCgJ5KBoU20cCX-K5K4FkjPbn_Nvk0Rauf-AAonhfvrb-LhNUFeXVmbf3wMCB8FMzX2grXEjEiFMzg-n8iXUsSYzvAj61a09pEHzexCAEth490Q/s1600/northshore.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Hawaii, and Oahu in particular, have a very rich military history that my husband is really into. We did the USS Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri on our last trip so this time we went to the <b>Pacific Aviation Museum</b>. In the Waikiki area, there is also a US Army Museum at Fort DeRussy which was incredibly interesting and also free.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Tahiti</b></span><br />
<br />
After shopping and eating up a storm in Hawaii, we continued our journey with 48 hours in Tahiti. Although it's the largest and most populous, Tahiti is typically a stopover point for many people on their way to other islands in French Polynesia. However, it's beautiful in its own way with lots of lush vegetation and waterfalls.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG_H-lkYYi03SmYtm27kgKQOX-2GeKd8dn-TE9Rb99a5YOPvHqcRmLiPLRMteKptXFpsmDbWlb7a_jmBl1VlDFisAg1s3JUwL_mdcMOACEmX_v4cs0yx10pm5CH2npRUyXFhTbt2RhuK8/s1600/tahitiwaterfall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="675" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG_H-lkYYi03SmYtm27kgKQOX-2GeKd8dn-TE9Rb99a5YOPvHqcRmLiPLRMteKptXFpsmDbWlb7a_jmBl1VlDFisAg1s3JUwL_mdcMOACEmX_v4cs0yx10pm5CH2npRUyXFhTbt2RhuK8/s1600/tahitiwaterfall.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
We stayed in <b>Papeete</b>, which is the capital of French Polynesia. The Marché de Papeete is a must-visit for food and souvenirs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd3H1N5-M8xXLilrrVS9g-eot0BjQYjpOWLk2VMIp6rzuXIJj1hy2fewZBRWcjkz0FMIAevCZSabjgtBpnD1u1RDSVcWo5q-L3oVruQ_UaCh24GRf0_TXDhM2xilrtpCPSswzCa2GsTNU/s1600/marchedepapeete.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="667" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd3H1N5-M8xXLilrrVS9g-eot0BjQYjpOWLk2VMIp6rzuXIJj1hy2fewZBRWcjkz0FMIAevCZSabjgtBpnD1u1RDSVcWo5q-L3oVruQ_UaCh24GRf0_TXDhM2xilrtpCPSswzCa2GsTNU/s1600/marchedepapeete.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I had also heard a lot about <b>Les Roulottes</b> (food trucks) that set up daily in downtown Papeete at <b>Place Vaiete</b>. These were interesting because they mostly served Chinese-style food but always with these giant plates of baguette. With the French influence over there, we got used to eating way more bread than we normally would!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXY_c0bLrdCroPvX1bhWV6xcHiHF3L0l6hENaPhVyh_ONT1-VjZmsx8jCbJjhNCwF6wFv6xR95kuKPMkoc3ZhdjNTxjaD9Hj93O3XGjCHFLUvZhTtnYGRVSa5QH56Tng7sLCZa1XIdjd8/s1600/tahitiroulottes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="375" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXY_c0bLrdCroPvX1bhWV6xcHiHF3L0l6hENaPhVyh_ONT1-VjZmsx8jCbJjhNCwF6wFv6xR95kuKPMkoc3ZhdjNTxjaD9Hj93O3XGjCHFLUvZhTtnYGRVSa5QH56Tng7sLCZa1XIdjd8/s1600/tahitiroulottes.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Another thing I noticed all around the island were these beautiful, colourful murals that were basically everywhere.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJFbGVnXwzJKtOBY1pMzJrEwD64_CilymYmwIV9oEh_nvLV8iSYeDFeM-1M2UFiNPD-1f6YJQLRCMEhuBUnL0G0CHkqRDCsdlx69KtpDOVPmN-lcM5MMMhOpRlFYofvj_6palLGILb1Sc/s1600/tahitimurals2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="330" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJFbGVnXwzJKtOBY1pMzJrEwD64_CilymYmwIV9oEh_nvLV8iSYeDFeM-1M2UFiNPD-1f6YJQLRCMEhuBUnL0G0CHkqRDCsdlx69KtpDOVPmN-lcM5MMMhOpRlFYofvj_6palLGILb1Sc/s1600/tahitimurals2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwcR_35ESKko1K14lyOYMosn3zAAmtXaoeeioO3avhfmHCHVjoMwbgfmRNuMJPPwPhTvaZmGl6GMZG0ZyLS914-ImwR2f7i57m_pm7oZw7QKcAPgkr6qDw1A-vatrO4hr4ZVCGXCgHvQ8/s1600/tahitimurals1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="584" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwcR_35ESKko1K14lyOYMosn3zAAmtXaoeeioO3avhfmHCHVjoMwbgfmRNuMJPPwPhTvaZmGl6GMZG0ZyLS914-ImwR2f7i57m_pm7oZw7QKcAPgkr6qDw1A-vatrO4hr4ZVCGXCgHvQ8/s1600/tahitimurals1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Bora Bora</b></span><br />
<br />
Then it was onto our final destination: Bora Bora. All of those photos you see of Bora Bora are what it looks like in real life... it's an absolutely magical place. The airport is located on its own little strip where there is no vehicle access. All of the transportation from the airport is by boat!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeaydMeSitJQ51kWX0ziCiojpbR-Zu69ndxnhK1AiEWjEVgpL5jY1MrnmJEXtdx7fN4cxDl7hvqepr_B58TmD4F5VEuewJy4vvHWxLe7fcvFgqq2q2LwU6g8ICHphSYbn5OWA1z3uNy6M/s1600/boraboraairport.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="375" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeaydMeSitJQ51kWX0ziCiojpbR-Zu69ndxnhK1AiEWjEVgpL5jY1MrnmJEXtdx7fN4cxDl7hvqepr_B58TmD4F5VEuewJy4vvHWxLe7fcvFgqq2q2LwU6g8ICHphSYbn5OWA1z3uNy6M/s1600/boraboraairport.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
My whole purpose in going to Bora Bora was to stay in an infamous overwater bungalow (why travel so far to not do that?!) We stayed at the <b>Sofitel Bora Bora Private Island</b>, which is one of the smaller resorts but, as its name implies, it's located on its own private island. The grounds were perfectly manicured and the resort is adult-only which means quiet and very relaxing.<br />

The water in Bora Bora was crystal clear and so warm. We spent each day doing some sort of water activity whether it was kayaking, snorkelling, or just floating around. What a serious luxury to have such access right from our bungalow.<br />

Our resort offered a free boat shuttle to their sister resort on the main island. We took the opportunity to rent a scooter to tour around the main island "open air" style. There is only one road and it takes about an hour.<br />

Although I don't believe in making resolutions, two of my top priorities for the new year include focusing on my health and decluttering my apartment. In the vein of decluttering, I'm also trying to be more mindful of my purchases and buy things I truly love and know I'll get a lot of use out of.<br />
<br />
This <b>Louis Vuitton Surene MM</b> is a recent purchase that has already proved its worth given how much use it's gotten. I have been wanting a new LV bag for a few years but nothing has ever caught my eye until this one. A medium-sized tote with three separate compartments (the middle is zippered for security), it features LV's iconic monogram canvas which is my personal favourite from the brand. It's been perfect for work but isn't too big to schlep around on weekends either. All I can say is it was definitely worth the wait!<br />

If you've got a beauty lover on your list, look no further than your local drugstore for these fun finds. If you're in Western Canada, most of these can be found at London Drugs!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzYTGwi7yJ7X9eaa0MEOVCFd_Hh98Xg1RN6cUcemXDz5nX_oeuutKd_9oMKN3tr0-DHdtCjHof9dFB6e_pi-C7uRM6Le9-gkfgqyuLirqdN-JN_fofX-1ma6ktkxVfGeLJrJkMpzl5BxA/s1600/drugstorestockingstuffers1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="389" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzYTGwi7yJ7X9eaa0MEOVCFd_Hh98Xg1RN6cUcemXDz5nX_oeuutKd_9oMKN3tr0-DHdtCjHof9dFB6e_pi-C7uRM6Le9-gkfgqyuLirqdN-JN_fofX-1ma6ktkxVfGeLJrJkMpzl5BxA/s1600/drugstorestockingstuffers1.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
<b>Makeup Brushes. </b>I particularly love <b>Real Techniques</b> and <b>EcoTools</b> because they are great quality at an affordable price. The <a href="https://www.farleyco.ca/Products/Real-Techniques-Mini-Multitask-Brush-079625017045.html"><b>Real Techniques Mini Multitask Brush</b></a> <b>($8.99 CAD)</b> could easily be thrown into a purse for on-the-go touch-ups while something like the <b><a href="https://www.farleyco.ca/Products/Ecotools_Makeup_Brushes_Start_the_day_Beautiful_kit-079625016062.html">EcoTools Start the Day Beautifully Kit</a> ($18.99 CAD) </b>features brushes for a full face and comes in a useful storage tray. If your giftee is more of a makeup sponge girl, the <b><a href="https://www.farleyco.ca/Products/Real-Techniques-Miracle-Complexion-Sponge-1566-079625915662.html">Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge</a> ($10.49 CAD) </b>is a nice alternative to the much more expensive Beauty Blender.<br />
<br />
<b>False Lashes. </b>Maybe not for everybody but if you've got a lash lover on your list, look for <b>MesmorEyes</b>, available as <a href="https://www.farleyco.ca/Products/Mesmoreyes-Full-Lashes-304-Black-067155503046.html">singles</a> <b>($5.99 CAD) </b>or <a href="https://www.farleyco.ca/Products/MesmorEyes-Kit-405-Almond-Shape-067155504050.html">trios</a> <b>($12.99 CAD)</b>. This brand stands apart from your basic lash brand because theirs are designed specifically for your eye shape. Find the perfect fit for almond, hooded, round, and monolid eyes!<br />
<br />
<b>Face Masks. </b>Single-use masks from Montagne Jeunesse like the <a href="https://www.farleyco.ca/Products/7th_Heaven_Pink_Guava_Peel_Off_Mask-0838000440471.html">7th Heaven Pink Guava Peel-Off Mask</a> ($1.99 CAD) are always a hit. Multi-use tubes, such as the new <b><a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/kiss-ny-professional-tightening-24k-gold-peel-off-mask---75g/L0171402.html">KISS NY Professional 24K Gold Peel-Off Mask</a> ($6.99 CAD)</b>, are also a good pick for avid maskers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd0BdHL_rUo9ehqWsaT7VNZQN9QtGIU_gf59TkMUrkOt7d_MKx10-CZY9Qsd0J1hKHQXP7yiFRsLGrYw8I9Za_vQUaIR-PiA_XORY1svzljb-pq2Xov6LsnrF1PnHCJe7PT_jhexmF7gY/s1600/drugstorestockingstuffers3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="386" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd0BdHL_rUo9ehqWsaT7VNZQN9QtGIU_gf59TkMUrkOt7d_MKx10-CZY9Qsd0J1hKHQXP7yiFRsLGrYw8I9Za_vQUaIR-PiA_XORY1svzljb-pq2Xov6LsnrF1PnHCJe7PT_jhexmF7gY/s1600/drugstorestockingstuffers3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Nail Polish. </b>I like the idea of a colour/top coat duo like this festive red (<b>Cherry Delightful</b>) from <b><a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/sally-hansen-complete-salon-manicure-nail-polish/M0003562.html">Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure</a> ($9.99 CAD)</b>. OG readers of my blog will know these polishes were among the first to kickstart my now insane nail polish collection (check out <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2010/06/sally-hansen-commander-in-chic.html">this post from way back in 2010</a>).<br />
<br />
<b>Mascara. </b>It's a makeup must-have that needs to be replaced every 3 months... every girl could use a backup! For something a bit fancy, there's the new <a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/loreal-unlimited-mascara---blackest-black/L0312204.html"><b>L'Oreal Unlimited Mascara</b></a><b> ($16.99 CAD) </b>which has a two-position wand (straight or bent), but you can't go wrong with a classic like <b>CoverGirl LashBlast ($9.99 CAD)</b>. The new Active version is supposed to be sweat-resistant and smudge-resistant, making it perfect for workouts.<br />
<br />
<b>Lipstick/Lipgloss. </b>I feel like one can never have enough lip products, be it lip balm, lipstick, or lipgloss. <b>CoverGirl </b>has revamped their Colorlicious Lipsticks, now called the <b>Exhibitionist Cream Lipstick ($10.99 CAD)</b>, with sleek new packaging and 48 different shades to pick from. I'm also obsessed with the super holographic <b><a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/almay-goddess-gloss/M0007663.html?dwvar_M0007663_color=Halo&cgid=">Almay Goddess Gloss</a> ($10.99 CAD) </b>which can be layered over lipstick or worn on its own.alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-49777767104042904082018-12-11T06:00:00.000-08:002019-01-01T20:23:25.698-08:00Chanel Mini BackpackEver since <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2016/06/aritzia-auxiliary-de-bray-backpack.html">I jumped back on the mini backpack train</a> and also <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2018/01/all-saints-kita-small-backpack.html">started using one for my office commute</a>, my love for "fashion backpacks" has grown. It was really only a matter of time before a luxury one entered my collection, and what better than a classic Chanel with gold hardware? Special thanks to my new hubby -- I've bought all my own designer bags up until now and it seems I've finally rubbed off on him because he got me this one as a random just-married present!<br />

In the midst of beautiful sapphires and jades, however, I was drawn to the shade <b>Vivid Labradorite</b>, which is a cool metallic grey... perfect for creating a smokey eye for any holiday parties you might have coming up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTg2RxtUP39KUojDs_rnwlxbfrKVYYaSymcW8jeX24yyva_YKlYGudIeYXgEJJE-6nDLNbJrpKCd1QNVNaQcd_nc6FI_wWTSt-x8wvwUOfMvCNatdvm6Dxx6LO8uz3RuHeodJXWIEjmYM/s1600/Stila+Heavens+Hue+Highlighter+in+Kitten.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="370" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTg2RxtUP39KUojDs_rnwlxbfrKVYYaSymcW8jeX24yyva_YKlYGudIeYXgEJJE-6nDLNbJrpKCd1QNVNaQcd_nc6FI_wWTSt-x8wvwUOfMvCNatdvm6Dxx6LO8uz3RuHeodJXWIEjmYM/s1600/Stila+Heavens+Hue+Highlighter+in+Kitten.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The shade comes in a few products, including an Eyeshadow Duo and the two I received from a media preview a while back: <a href="http://bit.ly/2Sof9e3"><b>Shimmer & Glow Eye Shadow</b></a> and <a href="http://bit.ly/2Sw5VN9"><b>Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner</b></a>. I've never really been a fan of liquid eye shadow but the Shimmer & Glow is actually quite a nice product. The doe foot applicator delivers concentrated pigment that feels like nothing on the lids and you don't have to deal with any fallout like you would with a powder. It dries to a non-transferable finish, but if you work fast you can easily use your finger to blend it in or with another colour. The Smudge Stick glides on smoothly but I wouldn't say it's long-wearing despite being waterproof... <i>ironically</i>, it smudges considerably after a long day.<br />
<br />
For my "Vivid Labradorite" makeup look I wanted to use a few other Stila products I've been excited about, namely the <a href="http://bit.ly/2Pkdc0w"><b>Heaven's Hue Highlighter</b></a> in the cult classic shade, <b>Kitten</b>. This shimmery nude is the palest of pink and is a perfect complement to the <a href="http://bit.ly/2SkEg1e"><b>Kitten Eye Shadow</b></a> that I ran along my bottom lashes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMe8Silz3m8rcUU_1xpE4HdGcL8cWMXAp2fWkJsQfTcdHm8X0ZrMdyhw9buSRvYHQetPY6aXxv4ysEryMtvwHnYUis48MNW_KG5sT0EM34V5o2Yx1Y73CwRHxu5sp2wD78M_AnnedOcKE/s1600/Stila+Fall+2018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="671" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMe8Silz3m8rcUU_1xpE4HdGcL8cWMXAp2fWkJsQfTcdHm8X0ZrMdyhw9buSRvYHQetPY6aXxv4ysEryMtvwHnYUis48MNW_KG5sT0EM34V5o2Yx1Y73CwRHxu5sp2wD78M_AnnedOcKE/s1600/Stila+Fall+2018.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
On my lips, I'm wearing the <a href="http://bit.ly/2RrXJgw"><b>Stay All Day Lipstick in Fia</b></a>, described by Stila as a "neutral nude." I'm pretty tan from my honeymoon (more on that coming soon but you can see some preview pictures on <a href="http://www.instagram.com/alison_elle">my Instagram</a>) so on me it runs more brown and kind of makes me feel like I'm living in the 90s. While I prefer more traditional lipsticks, Stila's formula has always been a favourite. It's pigmented and although it dries a creamy matte, it doesn't feel drying or uncomfortable.<br />
<br />
P.S. Can you believe it's already December and Christmas is basically a few weeks away? This year has just flown by!!alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-73503944206810344882018-11-09T06:00:00.001-08:002018-11-09T06:00:07.800-08:00MAKE UP FOR EVER Matte Velvet Skin FoundationI have tried a few other foundations from <b>MAKE UP FOR EVER </b>(<a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2015/08/grey-hair-new-make-up-for-ever-releases.html">here</a> and <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2015/11/-make-up-for-ever-ultra-hd-invisible-cover-stick-foundation.html">here</a>) and each time my comments were the same: they didn't work for my oily/combination skin nor my preference for matte finish makeup. When I received the <a href="http://bit.ly/2Qx2IMJ"><strong>Matte Velvet Skin</strong></a> <b>($48 CAD) </b>in the mail this summer, it seemed like the MUFE gods were finally answering my foundation prayers. But did it live up to the hype?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNE8GiLG6BXhGhGWJZNYiptbRfAKAgY3GUYIqmQde_75F9DgMlK6T5bZswGtQDHzN5zdxUSmf1nkYsjX7F9hUcB0buujmHjof6BLFwIFYW7Kh1l3HMIoW_5232-JtfbfysH3p9VPrqpyY/s1600/MAKE+UP+FOR+EVER+Matte+Velvet+Skin.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="428" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNE8GiLG6BXhGhGWJZNYiptbRfAKAgY3GUYIqmQde_75F9DgMlK6T5bZswGtQDHzN5zdxUSmf1nkYsjX7F9hUcB0buujmHjof6BLFwIFYW7Kh1l3HMIoW_5232-JtfbfysH3p9VPrqpyY/s1600/MAKE+UP+FOR+EVER+Matte+Velvet+Skin.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Short answer: <em>sort of</em>. I'll explain.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The Matte Velvet Skin foundation is a reformulation of MUFE's previous matte offering. It features FLEXI-FIT, the brand's exclusive technology for skin comfort and breathability. MUFE claims the new formula resists cracking so you won't look cakey and maintains a velvety finish for up to 24-hours (supposedly it's waterproof as well). It also comes in 40 shades which offers incredible choice for hard-to-match skin tones. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I really like the texture of this foundation; it's not watery but not too thick either. I find it blends easily and is very buildable. The picture below was taken just after applying the foundation. As you can see, the coverage is medium to heavy (which for me means creating a flawless base but doesn't completely camouflage my freckles) and can be built up without looking unnatural. It also doesn't really feel like I'm wearing heavy foundation so I'd say the claims about Matte Velvet Skin being comfortable are pretty accurate and thankfully I haven't experienced any breakouts due to use.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ6VdQzdm1KWlHdXDggxEtHRf_aHIgKIZs-LPPZPofll_qdqHbOQKoghIaBQEAdnqP9x0xi2LIRppaJTSZOE43GHoxcrUNu_bM1HLcsMkScwosHn4jOD9sIj_rrIpMz7nyO4RkLMUethI/s1600/MUFE+Matte+Velvet+Skin.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="693" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ6VdQzdm1KWlHdXDggxEtHRf_aHIgKIZs-LPPZPofll_qdqHbOQKoghIaBQEAdnqP9x0xi2LIRppaJTSZOE43GHoxcrUNu_bM1HLcsMkScwosHn4jOD9sIj_rrIpMz7nyO4RkLMUethI/s1600/MUFE+Matte+Velvet+Skin.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Unfortunately, where I think this foundation falls apart is wearability. I've worn it to a workout and it didn't separate or melt off. However, for some reason, and I don't know if it's just my skin, but this simply doesn't stay matte... which for me, is kind of the whole point of using a matte foundation. I have tried primer underneath and topping it off with the MUFE Ultra HD Powder, as recommended by the pros, but am constantly blotting my nose throughout the day (where the foundation seems to have the worst time sticking). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I note that the foundation does seem to remain velvety on the rest of my face but if you suffer from an oily T-zone like me I'd say be aware that this foundation probably will not stay matte "all day." I would recommend this for people with normal over oily/combination skin like mine. </div>

I've consistently kept some sort of Vitamin C product in my routine and my latest addition is this <a href="http://bit.ly/2SKvKtF"><b>KORRES Wild Rose 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum</b></a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
KORRES is a Greek skincare brand inspired by homeopathic traditions and specializing in natural ingredients. I seem to recall it used to be sold in Canadian Sephora stores back in the day (I believe it is still sold in American Sephora stores) but is now carried exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart. Their Wild Rose Brightening line is arguably their most popular, with this 15% Vitamin C Serum being the newest addition.<br />
<br />
This bi-phase (oil and water) serum contains 15% Super Vitamin C, the highest concentration of clinically effective stabilized Vitamin C. This potent ingredient increases skin’s absorption of ascorbic acid by 1,000%. Other key ingredients include 10% Wild Rose Oil, Bisabolol & Ginger Root Extract, Vegetable Squalene, Pro-Vitamin V5, and Vitamin E. Together, this combination targets dark spots and discolouration, reduces fine lines, combats pollutants, and provides maximum moisture to the skin.<br />
<br />
The product is comes in a glass bottle with a dropper applicator. It must be shaken before use due to its bi-phase nature and can be applied morning and/or night for an intensive treatment.<br />

<br />
I've never been the biggest fan of rose scents but since this one contains no synthetic fragrances, you get a fresh rose scent that doesn't tickle the nose. I'm also kind of obsessed with how this serum feels on my skin. Upon first application it seems a little oily but it absorbs quickly leaving my face feeling ultra hydrated and "plumped". With regular use, my skin texture also appears to be improving and it hasn't caused any horrendous breakouts.<br />
<br />
At <b>$99 CAD/30 mL</b>, the price is steep. However, a little goes a long way and I think the bottle will actually last quite a while. <i>Find it <a href="https://beauty.shoppersdrugmart.ca/Luxury/Categories/Skin-Care/Treatments/Serums/WILD-ROSE-15%25-VITAMIN-C-BRIGHTENING-SERUM/p/BB_5203069075667?variantCode=5203069075667">online</a> or exclusive at Shoppers Drug Mart (and collect those PC Optimum points with your purchase).</i>alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-69084370074313778562018-10-17T11:30:00.000-07:002018-10-17T11:30:22.142-07:00London Drugs #LDBeauty: Fall/Winter 2018 Launches to Look Out ForLast week was an <i>absolute whirlwind</i>... not only did <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo-k0p0gv83/?taken-by=alison_elle">I get married</a> (more on that to come), but just a few days before the wedding I also headed up to Whistler for the <b>#LDBeauty</b> event where we got to preview a ton of exciting beauty launches coming to <a href="http://www.londondrugs.com/"><b>London Drugs</b></a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTFxSIQ47vKrSFQ0pGayfyEWmbBz4rIYcfrEv69eWsSW-ehmA5MfJBSRx6IzXuTjt9A53G2Vk31-iyPwR7wxyOR5I2EAbp9cZZCZ3lw5MEBHwyjULTXq3t1E045MoMatmcYjvojHL0MVc/s1600/ldbeauty1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="653" data-original-width="501" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTFxSIQ47vKrSFQ0pGayfyEWmbBz4rIYcfrEv69eWsSW-ehmA5MfJBSRx6IzXuTjt9A53G2Vk31-iyPwR7wxyOR5I2EAbp9cZZCZ3lw5MEBHwyjULTXq3t1E045MoMatmcYjvojHL0MVc/s1600/ldbeauty1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The event took place over two days, with a "trade show" (where we got to go around meet all the different vendors and learn about their products) followed by a dinner sponsored by <a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/covergirl/"><b>Cover Girl</b></a> on the first day and a <a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/neostrata-2/"><b>Neostrata</b></a> workshop on the second day. We came home with a ton of different products which I'm looking forward to trying and reviewing on the blog over the next while but in the mean time, I wanted to share a few of the launches I'm most excited about.<br />
<br />
Do you remember when <b>Juicy Couture</b> launched its first eponymous fragrance back in 2006? The gorgeous glass bottle was <i>everything</i>. I bought it as soon as it came out but for some reason my body chemistry didn't really agree with the fragrance blend which was a major bummer. However, the 2018 <b>Juicy Couture Oui </b>is right up my alley. It's light and fruity with top notes of watermelon, acai berry, tea, and pear - yum! Also, I'm loving the 2000s throwback vibe... brings me right back to middle school/high school which was such a fun and carefree time.<br />

I've posted about <a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/search/?q=kiss&lang=default"><b>KISS</b></a> products a number of times before (<a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2016/08/kiss-new-york-professional-cosmetics-kiss-natural-blooming-lash-jasmine.html">here</a>, <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2016/10/halloween-nail-art-from-kiss-and-broadway-nails.html">here</a>, and <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2017/12/christmas-manicure-nail-art-kiss-accent-stickers.html">here</a>). The company is best known for its lashes and nail products, of which there are some very exciting new designs coming out including chrome nails! However, they're now moving into skincare with a line of face masks. Check out the 24K gold peel-off mask!<br />

Skincare seemed to feature most prominently in the launches at #LDBeauty this year which I loved since I became pretty obsessed with my skin in the lead up to the wedding. I'm also in my 30s so keeping my skin in tip-top condition is now a major priority.<br />
<br />
The <a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/search/?q=prevage&lang=default"><b>Prevage</b></a><b> Progressive Renewal Treatment</b> is being touted as an at-home chemical peel that's safe to use and considerably cheaper than going to a dermatologist (I believe the price was around $243 for the box).<br />

Retinol is also super big right now (or maybe it just piqued my interest the most since I have been loving the addition of retinol to my skincare routine). <a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/strivectin-2/"><b>StriVectin</b></a><b> S.T.A.R. <b>London Drugs</b> never ceases to amaze me with the amount of beauty and skincare products they sell. In fact, I feel like the brands they offer just keep getting better and better as each year passes. Plus, how convenient is it that the store is also a one-stop shop for food, home products, electronics, and everything else you might need? If you don't live in Western Canada, don't forget you can also shop <a href="https://www.londondrugs.com/">online</a>.alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-7380279367612354912018-09-25T06:00:00.000-07:002018-09-25T06:00:11.522-07:00Wedding Hair & Makeup Trial: How To Prepare and What to ExpectThere are lots of things to be excited about when you're planning a wedding but for a beauty blogger like me, coming up with my wedding look was one of my most anticipated. I'm obviously not a Kardashian so getting professional hair and makeup is a pretty rare occurrence, and it's always fun to see what you'll end up looking like when you hand over the reins to someone else. Since I just had my hair & makeup trial, I thought I'd share some of the things I learned!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3YdhFwL75TIdYwG8mr-9ia7BQhNFEu9FS13E8p5oB1dT9NgJZxXGQZptfxi-pkXlgWo9_z13UYQtHSkDCLkNGsj2Tp6ADf9eR9UZnFWp26DHOzwx529k7cjl15XLIA6W7oDmuRLzrSIk/s1600/weddinghairandmakeup1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="422" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3YdhFwL75TIdYwG8mr-9ia7BQhNFEu9FS13E8p5oB1dT9NgJZxXGQZptfxi-pkXlgWo9_z13UYQtHSkDCLkNGsj2Tp6ADf9eR9UZnFWp26DHOzwx529k7cjl15XLIA6W7oDmuRLzrSIk/s1600/weddinghairandmakeup1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
<b>1. Research, research, research</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you decide to go the professional route, a lot of research is involved in picking the right makeup artist/hair stylist for you. I knew that I wanted someone who could do both (two birds with one stone) and they had to be able to offer services for an entire bridal party plus my mom. I obtained a list of recommended HMUA from my wedding planner, did my own research for any additional ones I'd read good reviews about, and e-mailed them all for quotes. After comparing quotes, I narrowed down my choices and checked out their work on Instagram to see who might be a good fit. Some brides may want a more natural look or prefer someone who works with a particular ethnicity often (e.g. makeup for Asian features). I ended up choosing <a href="https://www.instagram.com/jaynamariemakeup/"><b>Jayna Marie Makeup + Hair</b></a> because she's won lots of awards, had great reviews, and I liked her work.<br />
<br />
<b>2. Pinterest is your friend</b><br />
<br />
Once I picked my wedding theme/decor and found my dress, I already had a pretty specific vision of how I wanted my hair and makeup to look. I very rarely wear my hair up so I knew I needed a style that would allow most/all of it to be down. I also love bold eye looks and neutral lips but wanted to play off of my dress and wedding accent colours in the makeup shades. My wedding theme is "west coast greenery" so I purchased a custom greenery comb from <a href="http://bit.ly/2zovnx9">Oh! Dina Millinery</a> and combed Pinterest for ideas on how to incorporate greenery into a hairstyle. I also decided that I wanted a gold based smokey eye and found some examples that I liked.<br />
<br />

<br />
<b>3. Bring everything to your trial</b><br />
<br />
For my trial, I purposely wore white on top so I'd at least know how the hair and makeup looked against white clothing (when I got home I did change into something a little fancier so I could get the full effect). I also brought all my accessories with me: my greenery hair comb, the earrings I'm planning on wearing, and hair extensions to add volume to my thin hair.<br />
<br />
<b>4. Be flexible</b><br />
<br />
After meeting Jayna and talking about my vision, I let her get to work. It's important to trust the professional! Jayna ended up changing the hairstyle slightly from what I originally asked for (everything to the side) because my hair isn't super long and it wouldn't have looked as good. She did show me how it would look that way and left it up to me to decide what I'll end up going with. She also really amped up the lashes (they are double layered and basically triple the length of my natural lashes) which was a pretty huge shock for me when I looked in the mirror for the first time... it's a lot of look but I kind of like it!<br />
<br />
<b>5. Check the wear time and take pictures</b><br />
<br />
After you're all fancied up, it's important to test the wear time on your makeup. You want it to really last since your wedding day is long. A lot of people recommend having your trial on the day of your engagement shoot or for your bridal shower so you can really get your bang for your buck, which I think is a great idea. If you have your dress, try it on to get a preview of how you'll look on your wedding day or wear it to an alterations appointment. I didn't really have that luxury due to timing but I did make note of how shiny I got, anything I want to change, and will bring that feedback to Jayna. I also took pictures when I got home to see how the makeup looked outside of Jayna's fancy studio lights.<br />
<br />

I just love the idea of incredibly potent products that are meant to work their magic while we're sleeping so we can wake up looking more youthful and refreshed.<br />
<br />
Estée Lauder's <a href="http://bit.ly/2Q4qGPB"><b>Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex</b></a> is a new treatment for the eye area that helps repair the visible impact of lack of sleep, UV, pollution, and even blue light from all those screens we're constantly looking at. It's the first of its kind specifically targeting blue light pollution and I bet we'll be seeing a lot more products coming out with this in mind in the near future.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisI14HJQ_Or2ZwzxV5LI0syD1jphyphenhyphenEkblEsyMYwtrVWkwGCSbVpMnPesfWyIEr2O6JNshNnRt1KYHc-j6E69UV4-92B19_tIXTrKAGDnc-vlFj7632mmPvjDLK5jWzNVMncwLHpo6GN84/s1600/Estee+Lauder+Advanced+Night+Repair+Eye+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="564" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisI14HJQ_Or2ZwzxV5LI0syD1jphyphenhyphenEkblEsyMYwtrVWkwGCSbVpMnPesfWyIEr2O6JNshNnRt1KYHc-j6E69UV4-92B19_tIXTrKAGDnc-vlFj7632mmPvjDLK5jWzNVMncwLHpo6GN84/s1600/Estee+Lauder+Advanced+Night+Repair+Eye+1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I was lucky enough to take home the Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex after a recent event (love the cute plastic globe it came in!) and have been putting it to the test ever since. It retails for <b>$80 CAD</b> which is quite pricey for an eye cream but a little goes a long way and you do get <b>15 mL</b> in the container.<br />
<br />
The texture is a lightweight GelCreme which feels luxurious on the skin and absorbs quickly. It doesn't leave a tacky finish either which can be annoying when you are trying to apply eye makeup on top. There is a slight perfumed scent, however, which may irritate sensitive eyes... I would just caution to be careful not actually get this too close to your eyes and concentrate just on the delicate skin around them.<br />

Although I don't typically have bags unless I haven't been getting enough sleep, I have noticed that my undereye area does look brighter in general. Plus, it doesn't hurt to keep up with preventative measures! If you're in the market for a new eye cream/serum/treatment, definitely give this one a look.alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-51687549225597258222018-09-06T06:00:00.000-07:002018-09-06T06:00:11.237-07:0090s Tommy HilfigerI remember back when I was in middle school and high school, flares and bell bottoms were all the rage and my mom/aunts telling me that they used to wear the exact same clothing. Well, I'm now old enough that trends are making their way back round again. Not gonna lie, it's a little weird!<br />
<br />
For the recent I Love the 90s concert (featuring C&C Music Factory, All 4One, Young MC, and Salt N Pepa) I attended, I wanted to dress the part. Thankfully, my mom is the type of person who never gets rid of anything so she had this OG Tommy Hilfiger coordinates set that is actually from the 90s unworn and hanging in her closet. Funnily enough, I swear I've seen teenagers wearing this exact outfit. Turns out I'm actually into it... in fact, I will definitely be wearing it again and not just as a pseudo-costume.<br />

I do have a ton of things I want to write about so hopefully will be able to get a few reviews out soon. In the mean time, I thought I'd share a recap of my recent bachelorette trip to <b><span style="font-size: large;">Las Vegas</span></b><span style="font-size: large;">!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJYv6QA-cWK2Z0TY2IjFdnJmwbmv4FhwbFtGwfhajpV7Un5trlZVZ9QOJi_uvWXQg4_1kOXycXi6B3ffKxTuKkOEPYOD_0hupzqrQqmX5ePpZKQmOn9Od2PyUO_Xa1Ixg41ErSkM7HzUk/s1600/IMG_2123.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="375" data-original-width="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJYv6QA-cWK2Z0TY2IjFdnJmwbmv4FhwbFtGwfhajpV7Un5trlZVZ9QOJi_uvWXQg4_1kOXycXi6B3ffKxTuKkOEPYOD_0hupzqrQqmX5ePpZKQmOn9Od2PyUO_Xa1Ixg41ErSkM7HzUk/s1600/IMG_2123.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The trip was planned by my MOH and one of my bridesmaids and was a total surprise until the day of. I was told what days to book off work and given a packing list but the ultimate destination and the activities we were doing were totally unknown to me. I'm the type of person who reads movie spoilers and flips to the back of the book to find out the ending before I've even started reading so the fact that I was able to refrain from shaking the info out of my friends was quite a feat. Side note: I'm keeping my friends off the blog for their privacy so the pictures in this post make it look like I was in Vegas by myself... I promise I wasn't alone!<br />
<br />
My MOH got me a super cute Hello Kitty hat to wear (see below) -- when in doubt get me anything Hello Kitty because I am obsessed with her, haha. I was also excited to use my new <a href="http://www.awaytravel.com/" style="font-weight: bold;">Away Luggage</a>, which ended up being the perfect companion for this 3-4 day trip (it's the Carry-On in white).<br />
<br />

<br />
When I arrived at the airport, my friends were already there and on their phones they were playing a Backstreet Boys song... because we were going to the BSB concert that night!! Total dream come true. I had the best time singing along to all their classics and reliving my teenage years.<br />
<br />

<br />
The next day we went to a pool party which is something I've always wanted to do in Vegas. It was super fun chilling at the pool, listening to the DJ, stuffing our faces with appies, and drinking cocktails. It also gave me the perfect opportunity to wear this "BRIDE" bikini that I've had for months.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Later that night we headed to the Strip for dinner at the <b>Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill</b> located in <b>Caesar's Palace</b> before we hit the club. I'm way too old to be clubbing but the clubs in Vegas are unlike anything back home (thousands of people, multiple rooms) that it really was something we all wanted to check out. We went to <b>Hakkasan</b> where Zedd was playing.<br />

<br />
We didn't get to bed until 3 a.m. so a delicious brunch was in order the next morning. We had made reservations at <b>Mon Ami Gabi</b>, which is in the Paris Hotel. Afterwards, we decided to check out some of the other hotels on the Strip including<b> The Venetian</b> with its infamous indoor canal and gondola rides.<br />

<br />
We ended off our last night in Vegas at our hotel, the <b>SLS Las Vegas</b>. It is a super cute boutique hotel at the north end of the Strip which meant it was much quieter and nicer to come home to. It also has its own monorail station so it's convenient to get around. If you are heading to Vegas, I would definitely recommend it!<br />
<br />
Dinner that night was our favourite of the trip: Mediterranean tapas at <b>Cleo</b>. The food was sooooo good. We also hit the casino for a bit of "gambling" (in quotes because none of us are high rollers and won 60 cents only to lose it again).<br />

At $20 CAD, however, the price for the Origins brush is a little steep... especially when you can get the even more affordable <b>EcoTools Facial Mask Mates</b> set for less than $10.<br />
<br />

The set contains a mask applicator brush for easy application of any cream, gel, or clay mask. Using a brush rather than your fingers makes the whole process mess-free and also allows you to conserve product because you can control how much you're layering on your face.<br />
<br />
Once ready to remove the mask, you can then use one of the three mask remover sponges included in the set. I usually use a wash cloth but a sponge is a great way to do it too. EcoTools recommends another use for them as well: with your cleanser as part of your everyday skincare routine to remove dirt, oil, and makeup.<br />

In case you were wondering how the two compare, the Ecotools mask applicator brush is a pretty decent alternative to the more expensive Origins brush. Both have synthetic bristles and are similar in shape (Origins is a little wider but they are about the same level of density). The Origins brush does feel a bit weightier and more substantial but both get the job done just the same.<br />
<br />
If you have to pick, the EcoTools set is a no-brainer! It's definitely made my masking routine even more enjoyable and is a great buy that you can find at your local drugstore (London Drugs, Rexall, or Pharma Plus, to name a few).alison*ellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08436507410658999731noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4161139572790645843.post-40134654413424460242018-06-28T06:00:00.000-07:002018-06-28T06:00:02.410-07:00Revlonissimo Color Sublime: Ammonia-Free Hair Colour in Three Stimulating ScentsMy hair had been in dire need of a touch-up so it was most fortuitous that I was offered an appointment to try the new <strong>Revlonissimo Color Sublime</strong> a few weeks ago. A salon-exclusive treatment, this line of Revlon Professional hair colour is ammonia-free and offers something never-before-seen (or smelled): customizable fragrance!<br />

Getting my hair done is always a bit of a treat... the head massage, the blowdry... it's an experience that you really want to indulge in. With Color Sublime, you can choose from three different fragrances, depending on how you're feeling. <strong>Sunset Mood</strong> is a tropical affair with notes of orange, mandarin, peach, apricot, rose, and musk. <strong>Sweet Gourmet</strong> is reminiscent of baked goods with notes of lily, jasmine, chocolate, cocoa butter, vanilla, and musk. Finally, <strong>Zen Moment</strong> transports you to the spa with notes of orange, lemon, rosemary, clove, tangerine, lily, freesia, wood, and musk.<br />
<br />
For my colour session, I chose Sweet Gourmet because I felt like something homey and comforting. Plus, I might have been a bit hungry since it smelled exactly like fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Yum!! It was nice to breathe it in and not have to worry about huffing damaging fumes. Since Color Sublime is ammonia-free, you're also getting a treatment that is more gentle on your hair but still rich and vibrant. The line is available in 51 shades and can lighten up to 3 levels.<br />

I personally have been going darker these days (especially after <a href="http://www.alison-elle.com/2015/08/burberry-beauty-fotd-my-burberry-edt.html">my time as a blonde</a>) and was super happy with how rich my colour turned out. My hair also felt incredibly soft and it was fun to have that added bonus of a special fragrance chosen by me (note: the fragrance is present during the treatment but not really once it's washed and conditioned for obvious reasons).<br />
