Because my hair is super fine, my ponytails/buns always end up a little sad-looking and regular sock buns don't work well either because I don't have thick enough socks. Thankfully "hair donuts" exist. Hair donuts are these mesh/velcro donut-shaped things that you can create buns with using the typical sock bun method. However, they come in different sizes and colours to match your hair (plus you can find them on eBay for only 99 cents). But the best part, in my opinion, is that you can't even tell that my bun is basically 90% apparatus and 10% hair!

Hair Donut = Amazing Invention for Fine Hair
I've been attending a series of barre fitness classes over the past month and maybe it's the new ballerina in me (okay, I admit that calling myself a "ballerina" is stretching it just a bit) but I've been really into the whole hair bun thing lately. As you know, I pretty much never wear my hair up, so this is kind of a big deal.

So cute on you! I love it! My friend and I were just discussing the whole sock bun phenomenon. It looks perfect on you!
ReplyDeleteFine hair is definitely not a problem I've ever had but I'm always looking to make my updos more perfect and it's fun to see a good review of a hair donut, because I've been really intrigued by them. I would never have guessed your hair could make this kind of bun - it looks incredible!
ReplyDeletexox,
Cee
I know, it makes me feel like I actually have voluminous hair for once - haha!
DeleteLike the boots. I want a pair like those. Barre Fitness sounds tough. I probably won't last 5 minutes.

That's what I thought too but it actually gets easier as you go. The class I take is a lot more dance based so I have been learning a lot of techniques that were long since forgotten since I stopped taking ballet at age 9.
DeleteSuch a lovely look. I really like your scarf! xx

YES!!! I love my donut, but I call it a hair rat because it looks so weird. Plus buns are perfect when your hair just iiiiisn't having it that day or when you only have five seconds to look halfway presentable.

my sockbun (which I use an actual sock but also have a donut) is my saviour for bad hair days (which is basically everyday). I am in love with sock buns.
ReplyDeleteSince discovering this a month ago, I've ordered about 6 and given them to my friends and family.
ReplyDeleteI don't have fine hair; I just have very straight asian hair with no volume whatsoever. I use this magical 0.99$ tool when my hair is wet / when I sleep and wake up with wavy hair!
I love the wavy after-effect too! I should try sleeping with it on to cut down my getting ready time in the morning.
DeleteI love it. You look so cute.. tehe:) I'm not used to it but you pull it off well.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I know, it's a bit weird to see isn't it? Not an everyday thing but nice to mix it up sometimes! You should try once your layers are all grown out :p
DeleteFine-haired girl problems! You look great with your hair up. I think I have something similar but it's plastic instead of velcro and rolls my hair up into a bun.
ReplyDeletePS LOVE your boots :>
nice boots color! :DD

You look GORGEOUS with your hair up!! Ha ha, I agree, thank goodness for those donut things. It's the only way I can get my hair to stay in a bun! :)

I just entered my daughter in a ballet class - she loves all things ballet and always wants me to do her hair in a bun LOL!
ReplyDeleteI find I get quite a good bun size with just spin pins - but I do have a hair donut I bought at H&M, just haven't gotten round to trying it out - your bun looks gorgeous!
By the way - I meant I get a good bun size on my hair with goody spin pins...my daughter has a bob - getting her hair in a bun is a challenge LOL!
DeleteHaha, that's so cute! I noticed you bought one of those hair donuts... I wonder what it'll look like on you, your hair seems so nice and thick.
Deletecute outfit! :)
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks so cute up! I think I need one of these things for mine. It's super fine too.
ReplyDeleteLove your boots too!!

I need to try one for sure. My hair texture suddenly changed a ton this past year and now it is much more fine. I need volume so this is awesome. I love your fur vest too.

LOVE LOVE LOVE your boots! I am on the hunt for these in a bad way!

you did a great job with the donut! I have 2 in my hair kit too. great boots too!
ReplyDeleteI have one of these donuts, Alison! It's certainly useful for creating a bigger bun. I get a lot of compliments when I wear it, haha! Yours looks cute. ;-)
ReplyDeleteoooh! I should get one. My bf likes it when i wear my hair up...but my hair is slightly too short to wear it up very well... I recently went to see ballet, and i must say, I wish i had learned it when i was younger.

Thank goodness for hair donuts, I can't live without mine! Yay for something that makes us fine haired girls have more life in our locks. Loving your outfit too, the all black with the faux fur and cognac boots is super chic.

ReplyDeleteI think your hair looks great up Alison! I have the same problem, the sock bun does not work at all in my hair. I think I will have to try this donut thing out :)
