I always find it hard to put a definitive label on my personal style but some of my friends have described it as "downtown-chic" - so I'm going to go with that! I tend to prefer more understated looks with lots of layers, neutral/monochromatic colour palettes, leather details, and a designer piece (or two) thrown in here and there.
When it comes to the evolution of my personal style, however, I would say that my tastes have stayed fairly constant for a number of years. My most recent style "phase" (previously mentioned this post) occurred about 6-7 years ago when I preferred to purchase the bulk of my clothing on trips to Asia or from Asian boutiques.
I was actually able to find some evidence of this phase via some photos I posted on My Style Diary back in the day. Crazy to think that I've been documenting my outfits for that long! As you can see, my style was more girly than it is now (I was obsessed with lace), and I also gravitated towards large statement graphics.

I love your style Alison! You always look gorgeous and very chic. I love that you wear a lot of neutrals and yet they aren't too basic!
ReplyDeleteEven though I don't wear much colour I do try and pick pieces that have some sort of detail to keep things a little more interesting :)
DeleteIt's great that you've been documenting your outfits for so long - I think that's probably why you have such a great sense of style...seeing photographs really help figure out the right elements for an outfit...after a full-length mirror, I think a camera is an outfit must-have :-)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, though I am laughing at my old school digital camera in those earlier pictures!
DeleteI have loved reading these posts. Such great style and so polished!

"Downtown chic" is a perfect style descriptor - loving all of these looks! I would describe mine as boho-chic meets city girl. Is that too many words? ;)
ReplyDeleteIsn’t That Charming.
Perfect descriptor, Emily! :)
DeleteI think that is a really great way to describe it! :)

ReplyDeleteI love that you've been documenting your style for so long! I so wish that I had been doing that as well. And I know what you mean about labelling your style. I wouldn't have a clue what mine is either. Sometimes you need the outside view of others to pinpoint these things :)

always so interesting to see your own evolution in style. i remember when i used to buy most of my clothes in asia too and i would always wear the funkiest stuff!
ReplyDeleteI know, looking back some of those pieces were so weird too! Like, weird Engrish sayings or strange patterns and colour combinations.
DeleteAww your style has evolved so much! I would say it's quite natural as we become more mature. I used to love purchasing from Asian wholesale sites because of the cute fashion and it was dirt cheap but my style is still changing.

I think that was one of the draws of Asian fashions too... soooo cheap! But most of it fell apart after only a few wears!
