Just Do It

I really can't get enough of this athleisure trend, especially because I'm kind of loving that my weekend wardrobe and fitness wardrobe have basically melded into one. Now the exorbitant amounts of money I spend on workout wear are somewhat justified since my clothes are playing double duty!

Athleisure

Happy New Year! Things are already getting back into full swing in work/life so I'm glad I took a little time to recharge over the holidays. Of course, it was also nice to fully enjoy some of my more casual clothing... as you know, I am a huge fan of the athleisure look (see here and here, for example). While dressing up is fun, sometimes you just want to be super comfy for those weekend brunches and long sunny walks along the Seawall.

P.S. Yes, I totally chopped off a bunch of hair!

Join Light Activewear's Mission for a Cleaner Planet!

After returning home from my 5 months in Calgary, I found an awesome personal trainer who has really helped me kick my fitness routines into gear. Remember that goal I had of learning to deadlift? Well, it's been achieved... in fact, I can now deadlift more than my own body weight!

Since I've been spending a lot of my free time at the gym, my workout wardrobe has grown considerably (feeling comfortable without looking sloppy can be an excellent motivator) and while I've been a Lululemon devotee since 2005, I'm always on the lookout for new brands. Light Activewear, another Vancouver-based company, is one of my recent finds. I wore my new Lydia Tank Top to the gym a few days ago and received a ton of compliments... it's so cute!

As a responsible business, Light Activewear is also striving to bring more sustainable, earth-friendly clothing into their collection and have recently launched the We Care Campaign on Indiegogo to raise the money to do so.

All items from the We Care Collection will be made from 100% recycled polyester and a unique blend of "Dope Dyed Yarn." By contributing to the campaign, you can be one of the first to own a piece (or pieces) from the new line, including the Anna Tee, Pearl Pant, and Darla Jacket.

The company is hoping to raise $10,000 by June 6, 2013 and they're currently a little more than halfway towards their goal. For the month of May, every piece sold from the campaign will be matched with the donation of one Light Activewear item to the Vancouver Rape Relief & Women's Shelter, and once they reach the 100% mark, 10 donors will also win a personalized Anna Tee! Be sure to check out the campaign page to learn more.

Get Fit (& January Must-Reads)

Question of the month: How often do you work out? What's your preferred method of exercise?

I exercise 4-5x a week. Right now I am taking Zumba and yoga classes, and mixing those with cardio/strength training at the gym. Zumba is probably my favourite workout (I've been taking classes for about 3 years), but I find fitness classes in general to be the most fun since you have the guidance of an instructor and the exercises are always varied. While in Calgary, for example, I also dabbled in ballet barre workouts. Now that I'm back in Vancouver, I'm planning on getting a personal trainer because I want to learn how to deadlift!

And while we're on the topic of working out, I thought I'd share a few health and fitness-related items that are currently on my wishlist:

1. oGorgeous Beverly Bow Yoga Bag
2. Nike Free Run 3+ Running Shoes (here)
3. Flavour It Glass Water Bottle w/ Built-In Fruit Infuser

P.S. Don't forget to check out the other girls' answers to this question and their must-reads for the month of January.
