You Are Loved

I go for brunch pretty much every weekend and this is a typical casual look for me (I live in Vancouver so yes, I admittedly wear Lululemon leggings as pants). My Mezzi Mini Cosima bag makes the perfect companion as well... I love how it has a built-in charger and Bluetooth speaker, not to mention it's super cute in this tiny size.

P.S. I am getting laser eye surgery this afternoon so will be taking a brief blogging hiatus until I can see again. Fingers crossed for a speedy and pain-free recovery!

Lisa Q of Sweden Velvet Chokers & Bling Strings

Although I have been avoiding most of the 90s fashion resurgence with a few exceptions (my mini backpack, for example), I have to admit that I did jump back on the choker bandwagon. While I refuse to don one of those tattoo necklaces that were integral to my grade 6 wardrobe, there are some styles that I have actually really been loving.

Lisa Q of Sweden sent me a few chokers to style and I wanted to share them with you since they are a Canadian brand (based in Burlington, Ontario) and are super cute as well!

The Dazzle Velvet Choker ($32 CAD), which I received in Midnight Blue, is a thin velvet choker with silver plated metal rings. It ties on and you can wear it two different ways: with the rings showing for a glam look or turned around so it's just the velvet for a more understated look.

For something more casual, Lisa Q of Sweden offers Bling Strings which are basically faux suede cords that you can tie around your neck in all sorts of different combinations. They come in a variety of colours and lengths, as well as some with crystals and beaded adornments.

Above, I'm wearing the Glow Bling String ($15 CAD), which is the shortest length. It's still long enough to tie a bow though I personally prefer it worn the second way I've shown or flipped around so it looks like a simple cord.

I like how versatile and inexpensive these pieces are for something so on-trend. All of the brand's products are nickel, lead and cadmium free too which is great for someone with as many allergies as me. If you're looking for a last minute present for a fellow fashionista, shop online by Dec. 21 (Ontario) or Dec. 19 (rest of Canada) to get them in time for Christmas!

Holiday Gift Sets from Burt's Bees and Fresh

The Christmas countdown is officially on and I wanted to share a few gift sets with you that I received from PR in case you're still stumped for ideas. I personally think you can't go wrong with a beauty or skincare gift set -- after all, who doesn't love sampling products? Plus, they're usually wrapped up in cute packaging to invoke some holiday cheer.

They're all travel-sized as well -- perfect for the skincare loving jet-setter on your list.

If you've got more money to spend on a present, Fresh's holiday packaging is always on point and they're offering a wide selection of curated skincare and lip products. For example, (this amazing lip treatment I reviewed a few years ago is back again (in a new iteration) for $70.

FOTD: Teeez Cosmetics Fashion Vendetta Collection

I was recently sent a number of products from Teeez Cosmetics, a European makeup brand hailing from the Netherlands. Inspired by global runway trends, Teeez releases four new fashion-inspired collections every year with its latest one being the Fashion Vendetta Collection.

The first thing I noticed when I opened up my package was obviously the packaging. I mean, we all know I'm a sucker for packaging and there is no denying that these products are seriously gorgeous.

While the compacts are made with a typical shiny plastic, the lip products feature a more nubby matte feel (think NARS) which makes my tactile-loving self unable to stop touching them. Hmm... does that sound a little creepy?

The Fashion Vendetta Collection also features three different types of lip products to choose from depending on your favourite finish: Material Girl (creamy and hydrating), Read My Lips (satin matte), and Serial Lip Stain (a true matte).

I couldn't wait to play with everything so pulled together an easy but glowy makeup look. On my eyes, I am wearing the To Die For Eyeshadow Quad in "Cinnamon Revolution" which is truly the perfect set of neutrals. These shadows have a harder texture which left me a little concerned that they wouldn't apply well but, once on, you can see that they are actually quite pigmented.

Since I'm not a big fan of looking shiny I rarely wear highlighters, but I couldn't resist the Style Addict Highlighter in "Berlin Sunrise". It's a lightweight cream with micro pearlized pigments so the result really does leave you with a nice radiant glow.

To finish off, I went with the Serial Lip Stain in "Faux Pas". If you like matte opaque lip colours, you need to try this lip stain! Although I could feel it drying on my lips after application (you know that kind of tightening feeling you get with matte lip products?), it actually was very comfortable once on and I didn't feel like my lips were too dry throughout the day.

Imbue Goods Skin Recovery Mists

I spent last week up in northern BC for a hearing, which means my skin took a bit of a beating from the cold, freezing fog, and snow. Conducting a hearing is also a stressful time so I was glad to come home to this set of skin recovery mists from local Vancouver brand, Imbue Goods.

These skin recovery mists are made with a blend of distilled water, Rose Water, Vitamin E and various essential oils and can be used for a wide variety of purposes: setting makeup, as a calming mist at work, pre/post workout, as a hydrating travel mist, pre-bed ritual etc. I have personally been using these mists to revive my skin from the aforementioned harsh Winter weather and love how lightweight and refreshing they feel on my face.

Plus, as I've written before, I am a huge fan of aromatherapy and there really is nothing better than a good scent to lift your spirits. Imbue Goods currently offers 4 blends to choose from:

Lust  - Essential Oils of Orange, Patchouli, Rosewood, Indian Neroli, Bergamot, Cardamon, Cedarwood, Champa & Vetiver. This is a smoky, woody floral.

This looks like a totally plain outfit from the front, right? Like, wow, Alison -- you paired a grey sweater with some black pants. Stocking Stuffer Ideas from Arbonne, The Body Shop, and PC Home

You guys, today is November 25... that means Christmas is exactly one month away. Yikes! I've been trying to stay on top of my shopping list this year and get it done early but I'm still nowhere near finished. I figured it can't hurt to have a little bit of inspiration though, so if you're looking for some stocking stuffers or ideas for smaller presents, I've rounded up my top picks from a few favourite brands.

Arbonne, for example, always releases a great holiday collection -- so prettily packaged you don't even have to use wrapping paper, and this year's is no exception. Their sets are a little more on the pricey side but the company is known for their use of high quality, natural ingredients.

New for 2016 are the Olive Blossom & Eucalyptus Gift Set ($73), which includes a Cleansing Body Polish and Body Butter, as well as the Shea Butter Collection Hand Trio ($50), featuring three hand lotions in original Shea Butter, Lavender Mint, and Apricot Vanilla. Both are great for scent lovers! As well, Arbonne has brought back the Tahitian Coconut Lip Therapy Set ($50) that I reviewed last year; it's gotten a refresher  with the Lip Salve now coming in a squeeze tube (plus an $8 price decrease!).

Back in October, I also had the pleasure of attending a Holiday 2016 preview for The Body Shop (the same time I was introduced to their face mask line, in fact) and came away with a bunch of products which I'm not only loving, but are just perfect for gifting. Proceeds from selected Christmas gifts go towards their newest campaign too, meaning that for every gift bought, The Body Shop will restore 1 square metre of rainforest in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

I can't get enough of the Love Me Fruity Body Butter Trio ($15 CAD), which includes 50 mL versions of The Body Shop's signature Satsuma, Strawberry, and Coconut Body Butters. These travel-size containers are a serious lifesaver for me on my frequent work trips to Northern British Columbia with its cold and dry weather. The Merry Kiss-mas Born Lippy Lip Care Wand ($20 CAD) features the cutest packaging and five different lip balms (Strawberry, Raspberry, Satsuma, Watermelon, and Passionberry). You could also split it up and use individual lip balms as stocking stuffers -- saving $10 in the process! And if you get the chance, I recommend checking out the new limited edition Vanilla Chai scent... it's seriously yummy. The Vanilla Chai Treat Box ($10 CAD) contains a mini Body Butter and Shower Gel.

If bath and body products aren't your giftee's thing, there are also some really affordable options from PC Home (yes, President's Choice, the brand you can find at Loblaws and Real Canadian Superstore).

I love the idea of putting a nice ornament in someone's stocking and this Gold Geometric Star Ornament ($6 CAD) is super pretty. The PC Life At Home collection also has a couple different hot water bottle options (including some that are made with faux fur), but I personally think the Woven Buffalo Plaid Hot Water Bottle ($15 CAD) would appeal to most people. Plus, who doesn't want something cozy like this to curl up with during the cold weather? For the tea drinker, you can't go wrong with a cute tea pot like this Fair Isle Teapot ($19 CAD) and a lovely hostess gift would be this chic black and gold Bold Cocktail Shaker ($12 CAD).

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Light Fusion (Rose Gold)

One of MAKE UP FOR EVER's Fall 2016 releases is the Pro Light Fusion line and I'm pretty it sure will be a top seller for the company. As you know, I actually prefer a matte look over a more dewy one due to my oily/combination skin, but even I cannot get over how gorgeous these new highlighters are.

Just like the Pro Bronze Fusion, which I have blogged about before, the new Pro Light Fusion comes housed in a round plastic compact and with the brand's signature wave surface pattern for optimal powder pick-up.

It also features the same creamy gel-powder formulatiom (seriously, how does MUFE do it?). The unique texture means it's easy to blend and can be layered depending on the amount of highlight you want. As you can see from my swatches below, a hard swipe will get you a very intense metallic finish which can be buffed out for a more natural radiant look.

I have the Pro Light Fusion in 01 (Rose Gold) which is perfect for light to medium skintones. It also comes in 02 (Gold) for tan to dark skintones. Retail price is $43 CAD which, admittedly, is a little pricey but you're paying for quality and a little does go a long way. Plus, seriously... look how pretty!

Riding Around

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already gotten a peek at these pictures taken from what was probably my last bike ride of the year. Given the weather, I really don't think I'll be hopping back on for a spin until it's warmer and drier (basically Spring 2017). This is also the first time I'm featuring my new bike, which you may recall I picked up this summer as an addition to my beloved city cruiser. As you can see, it's totally different and my need to own two different bicycles was absolutely justified ;)

Coach Eau de Parfum

I haven't shopped at Coach in probably a decade but I still have fond memories of my first few bag and wallet purchases from back in the day. No matter how you feel about their designs -- love them or hate them, I don't think you can deny that Coach remains an iconic American brand. Now, adding perfume to the mix, the company recently launched a new fragrance called Coach Eau De Parfum (not to be confused with its 2007 perfume of the same name).

This 2016 iteration of Coach Eau De Parfum was inspired by New York City with top notes of sparkling raspberry, pink pepper, and pear. Mid-notes of Turkish rose dry down to a base of suede musk and sandalwood. It's not entirely unique but is the kind of scent that will appeal to a wide audience, leaning more on the youthful side, which is what I think the company was going for since Chloe Grace Moretz is the brand ambassador.

The packaging has also seen a nice update that's both modern yet classic. The solid glass bottle features an engraved horse and carriage emblem and several signature Coach design details: the leather hang tag, similar to what is found on the brand's handbags and accessories, as well as a turn-lock closure which turns into an atomizer (you "unlock" it to spray).

Coach Eau de Parfum retails for $90 CAD (50 mL) and $115 CAD (90 mL). Find it at Hudson's Bay, Shoppers Drug Mart, Sears, Jean Coutu and Murale.

Rainy Day Blues

You might have noticed I've been a bit more absent than usual lately. Honestly, late Fall leading into Winter is always a tough season for me. For one thing, Vancouver's constant rain has really been getting me down. It's dark, dreary, and depressing and all I really want to do is stay indoors 24/7. Not only that, but I've also been recovering from a cold (being sick is the worst!) while trying to stay on top of work. Add in a move this month and preparing for laser eye surgery in December... basically, I cannot wait to get through this slump!

Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup

This Fall, Estée Lauder has launched an interesting new foundation: the Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup (I know -- what a mouthful!) which is being touted as a makeup and pro tool in one. Inspired by all those cushion foundations we've been seeing around (example), it features a special built-in cushion tip applicator.

I'll admit I was initially a bit turned off by the cushion applicator thinking about how gross it would get after a few uses. However, the product designers did actually address this issue by making the sponge removable. You simply twist the gold-tone ring at the top to remove the entire tip and can then wash it with mild soap and water. This seems a bit finicky but if you make it part of your weekly makeup brush washing routine then it's not so bad. I guess problems only arise if you don't wash your makeup brushes that frequently!

Aside from the sponge tip, which does act like a little Beauty Blender for flawless application, this foundation is also really portable and great to throw in your bag when you're on the go. The innovative stick design also displays how much makeup is remaining; basically, the stick becomes smaller as you dispense the product.

As for the formula, it's quite light and gives sheer/medium coverage. If you've got oily/combination skin like me you might not like it though. With "radiant" in the name, you can expect a more dewy effect or, in my case, just find yourself looking super shiny.

Halloween Nail Art from KISS and Broadway Nails Press-On Manicure

Halloween is creeping on up which means it's the perfect time to break out some fun nail art! As I have less and less time to paint on intricate designs, however, I've found the easiest way to do this is with products like nail stickers or press-on nails -- especially when it's an occasion like Halloween where you really only need the look for a day or two.

This year I'll be making use of a few different items: KISS Nail Dress and Art Stickers, as well as Broadway Nails Press-On Manicure.

I love a good nail sticker for how fast and easy they are to use, and have recently been enjoying press-on manicures for nights out when I don't have time to do my nails. I first used Broadway Nails Press-On Manicure a few years ago, and have thankfully since perfected my technique. Since my nails are quite short, I realized you can actually trim the press-on nails with a nail clipper and file them down for a more natural look. This can be difficult with longer designs but works in most cases!

findersKEEPERS The Way Dress

As I've mentioned before, prints are not usually my thing. However, on the rare occasion when I'm drawn to a certain one, I kind of have to have it (like my DvF wrap dress). The same thing happened when I stumbled upon this dress from the Australian label findersKEEPERS in this bold "Light Marrakech" print. Wearing it to work has been a nice way to bring brightness to some of the rainy days we've been experiencing here in Vancouver this Fall.

The Body Shop British Rose Plumping Face Mask

The Body Shop recently launched a line of Expert Facial Masks featuring five different face masks inspired by traditional beauty remedies from around the world. Being the face mask fiend that I am, I really can't wait to try these all out.

Each mask is made with natural ingredients (vegan/vegetarian) and contains zero parabens, silicones, mineral oils or paraffins. I had the chance to test out the Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask in-store recently and was impressed to find it wasn't sticky as expected despite being a "honey mask". Instead, it was more of a jelly-like consistency, similar to the British Rose Plumping Mask which I was given a full-size of to take home.

If you like roses, the British Rose Plumping Mask will definitely appeal to you since it's quite heavily scented (though not in an obnoxious way). On the skin it feels light, cool, and refreshing. This particular formula also appears suitable for sensitive skin since it was quite gentle and left my skin feeling moisturized once I washed it off.

As you can see, the masks come packaged in a 75 mL plastic jar for $28 CAD. I'm told there should be enough product for 20 uses so it actually works out to less than $2 per mask session -- very reasonable! To make application easier, The Body Shop is selling a Facial Mask Brush for $18 CAD, which intrigues me a bit, although you can definitely get by with just using your fingers like I've been doing.

Loving That Lace

After missing out on this For Love & Lemons Guava Two-Piece, I was ecstatic to find this dupe of the top at Express for a fraction of the price. I wish Express had the matching skirt so I could recreate the full look; for some reason they have it in every other colour except white. Maybe it's time to write to the company and ask for a white version...?

Paul & Joe Beaute for Cat Lovers

When it comes to adorable packaging, you really can't beat Paul & Joe Beaute. Founded by French fashion designer Sophie Albou, her products are definitely the ones you'll want to have front and centre on your vanity.

Each season, Sophie releases limited edition paper packaging to match the custom prints from her fashion line. It's a fun concept because it means you can switch your lipstick refill bullet from one case to another for something a little different. Another theme that regularly runs throughout Paul & Joe Beaute, and which I'm featuring in this post today, is cats. If you're a cat lover, prepare to want everything.

For Fall 2016, I can't get over the Paul & Joe Cheek Colour CS105 "Chill in the Air". This limited edition product comes housed in a round cat-patterned container complete with puff. Inside are pearls of iridescent colour pigments, somewhat reminiscent of Guerlain Météorites. However, unlike the Météorites, "Chill in the Air" also contains little cat-shaped cheek colours.

When you have makeup this cute, it can be incredibly difficult to bring yourself to use it. That's been the case with the Paul & Joe cat lipsticks I've been hoarding. The lipsticks are formulated using a unique, Japanese candy-making technique called Kintaro-ame, which consists of two separate tubes (one columnar and one cat-shaped) to ensure the cat face shapes remain visible until the lipstick is used up.

Unfortunately, the cat face etching will be wiped away once you use it -- one of the main reasons I have yet to even swatch these!

Di Morelli Skin Care

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a special VIP lunch at Market by Jean-Georges at the Shangri-La hotel with Di Morelli Skin Care. The brand was founded by Dr. Robert Morell of the Medical Rejuvenation Centre here in Vancouver and features a range of "cosmeceuticals" (a combination of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals with biologically active ingredients).

While we dined on some seriously delicious food, Dr. Morell and his staff walked us through a few of the key products in the Di Morelli Skin Care line aimed at targeting certain key concerns like anti-aging and brightening. Dr. Morell explained why he decided on which ingredients to include in each product, which I should also note are 100% Canadian developed, manufactured, and warehoused.

Since I am especially concerned with sun protection, it was interesting to learn about the differences between basic drugstore sunscreens, which only protect the skin from UVB rays (burning) versus cosmeceutical sunscreens, which also protect the skin from UVA rays (a cause of premature aging).

SPF 35 is made with micronized zinc oxide to protect against both UVA and UVB, and dries to a matte finish, making it an acceptable base for makeup. I have been using this daily and I like it a lot although it does smell like your typical sunscreen (no fancy scents... it's all business with this one).

I can't wait to try out more products from Di Morelli and lucky for us all, the brand is now available at Nordstrom Vancouver.

Crazy for Chloe

Ballerina

A while back, I posted these flats on my Instagram, which are obviously inspired by the much more expensive Miu Miu ones. Growing up, I actually took ballet lessons for a number of years at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (little known fact: I grew up in Winnipeg) and although those dance years are long behind me, I still have a soft spot for anything ballerina-inspired.

Chloe Susanna Boots

The first iteration of the Chloe Susanna Boots (then called the "Susan") first came out in 2008 and I've been waffling over them ever since. On one hand, I couldn't tell if they were too over the top and maybe a little bit "country" which is not my style at all; on the other hand, I was somehow inexplicably drawn to them.

Over the past 5 years or so, booties have become an absolutely integral part of my Fall/Winter wardrobe (for example, my Alexander Wang Kori Oxfords are now well-worn and my Vince Yarrow booties bought in January are getting there too) so I finally decided to bite the bullet. With the gold hardware, these are definitely a unique addition to my shoe closet.

These were also a birthday present to myself since I just turned 30 on Monday (ugh... I still can't believe I'm no longer in my twenties). As you guys know, I typically buy myself something from my lust list each year. Last year it was my Burberry trench coat and the year before that it was my Proenza Schouler PS11.

Since purchasing my Chloe Marcie bag I've kind of become obsessed with all things Chloe so these were an easy pick. Plus, what else would you expect from a girl with a shopping addiction who's looking to take the sting away from getting older? Retail therapy is the answer, obviously.

The Perfect Texturized Ponytail with MoroccanOil and Hair Slinky by La Vita Glam

Since my hair is so fine and straight (seeing it in its natural state is a rare occurrence), if I want to wear my hair up (another rare occurrence), creating a ton of texture is key. Without it, all I've got is a very sad looking ponytail. It was thus rather fortuitous that I was sent some products from MoroccanOil a few months back, which allowed me to come up with this routine for the perfect texturized ponytail.

After showering, I dispense a golf ball sized amount of the MoroccanOil Beach Wave Mousse, concentrating from mid-length down to the ends. You can let your hair air dry if you've got the time but to speed things up, I blow dry with my diffuser attachment on. Since my hair is so slippery, this mousse adds a good amount of texture without feeling gritty (though you can definitely feel that there's some sort of product in it).

To create a bit more volume, I like to add some random curls with my ghd 1" styler. Next, I use the MoroccanOil Dry Texture Spray, lifting my hair at the roots and spritzing. I like this spray because it definitely adds texture but doesn't seem to leave a lot of product buildup like the mousse.

Finally, for a more piecey look, I rub a little bit of MoroccanOil Texture Clay on my hair ends. I think this clay is probably intended for shorter hair styles as it's considered a unisex product but it works for this purpose as well.

To secure my hair up these days I have been using the Hair Slinky by La Vita Glam. These probably look familiar to you as I'm pretty sure I've seen key chains that look like this. However, you can also use them for your hair! The company claims they're creaseless and won't cause breakage when you pull them out. Plus, the bigger ones can double as bracelets which is kind of fun.

I like the idea of the Hair Slinky but don't love how visible they can look when they're in your hair -- just my personal preference. As such, I've been opting for the smaller sized ones since they're not as noticeable when worn (I'm wearing the small brown one in the picture below). Another pro tip: if your Hair Slinky stretches out, which is inevitable, you can drop it in a cup of hot water and it will shrink back down. Apparently blow drying works the same too.

A Hint of Skin

I wore this exact same outfit to the Rihanna Anti World Tour 2016 back in April after debating over a number of different ones in the days leading up to the concert. This skirt ended up sealing the deal for me... after all, clearly I have a thing for mesh details (see here, for example). In fact, what I realized afterwards was that this just ended up being the "night out" version of one of my work looks!
